Position Overview

The Hatch Art Gallery Coordinator plays a pivotal role in overseeing the Hatch Art Gallery, ensuring its effective management and adherence to established policies. This position is essential for promoting the gallery and its initiatives, including renovations and grant applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the management of the Permanent Art Collection, ensuring its preservation and organization.
  • Identify and recommend new acquisitions to enhance the Permanent Collection.
  • Explore opportunities for loaning pieces from the Permanent Collection.
  • Maintain and update the gallery's online presence and database.
  • Organize biannual exhibitions showcasing the Permanent Art Collection.
  • Develop both short-term and long-term strategies to position the gallery as a vital resource for the arts community.
  • Review and curate applications for student art exhibitions.
  • Schedule and coordinate student art shows, serving as the primary contact for organizers.
  • Curate additional exhibitions that align with the gallery's mission.
  • Recruit, train, and manage volunteers for the gallery throughout the year.
  • Promote the Hatch Art Gallery and its events within the campus and the broader community.
  • Foster relationships with the Department of Art History and Visual Arts and local artists.
  • Maintain the gallery's operational space and resources.
  • Participate in committee meetings and provide updates on gallery activities.
  • Prepare transition documentation for future coordinators.
  • Adhere to the organization's mission and values in all operations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Current enrollment as a student at UBC or an affiliated institution, preferably in a relevant field.
  • A genuine passion for the visual and performing arts.
  • Strong interest in engaging the public through innovative programming.
  • Ability to execute installations for various exhibitions.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive environment.
