Job Opportunity: Art Gallery Support Associate

Creative Manitoba is a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering artistic expression and providing mentorship to youth in the community.

We are seeking an Art Gallery Support Associate for an 18-week term position, offering 30 hours of work per week. This role is made possible through the Young Canada Works Student Workplace program. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the Gallery Coordinator to assist in managing exhibitions, events, educational initiatives, and community outreach. This position is ideal for a post-secondary student pursuing studies in Fine Arts, Art History, or Curatorial Practices. The role presents an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience in arts administration and community engagement.

Weekly Hours: 30 hours, including daytime and evening shifts (some weekends may be required)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain daily office operations and perform administrative duties, such as data entry and filing.
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings, documenting minutes and sharing them with the management team.
  • Engage with the public by answering phone calls, responding to general inquiries, and welcoming gallery visitors.
  • Assist in the setup and dismantling of exhibitions at various gallery spaces.
  • Support the execution of events and exhibition openings.
  • Contribute to educational programming, including leading gallery tours and workshops.
  • Promote gallery activities through website updates, social media, and outreach to community partners.
  • Perform data entry and other assigned tasks as needed.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Must meet the criteria for a Young Canada Works Student Work Placement: currently enrolled in a post-secondary program (full-time or part-time), 30 years of age or younger at the start of employment, a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, and possess a valid Social Insurance Number.
  • A keen interest in pursuing a career in the arts, with preference given to those studying Fine Arts, Art History, or Curatorial Practices.
  • Experience in creating digital and social media content.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Premiere).
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with the community and work within an anti-oppressive framework, with an understanding of the challenges faced by youth in urban settings.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, excellent organizational abilities, and a proven capacity to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • A valid class 5 driver's license and access to a vehicle is considered an asset.
  • Candidates will be required to provide a clear criminal record check and a child abuse registry check.
