We are seeking a motivated individual for the role of Art Gallery Support Associate. This position is designed for a duration of 18 weeks, with a commitment of 30 hours per week. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the Gallery Coordinator to facilitate exhibitions, events, educational initiatives, and community outreach. This role is ideal for a post-secondary student pursuing studies in Fine Arts, Art History, or Curatorial Practices. The position offers an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience in arts administration and community-focused programming.
Position Details:
Type: Term
Compensation: Hourly rate
Weekly Hours: 30 hours, including daytime and evening shifts (some weekends may be required)
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform daily office upkeep and administrative duties, including data management and organization.
- Participate in weekly team meetings, documenting minutes and sharing them with the management team.
- Engage with the public, managing phone inquiries, responding to general emails, and welcoming gallery visitors.
- Assist in the setup and dismantling of exhibitions at various gallery spaces.
- Support the execution of events and exhibition openings.
- Contribute to educational programming, including leading gallery tours and workshops.
- Welcome and assist gallery visitors.
- Manage promotional activities, including website updates, social media content, and outreach to community partners.
- Conduct data entry tasks.
- Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Must meet the criteria for a Young Canada Works Student Work Placement: currently enrolled in a post-secondary program (full-time or part-time), 30 years of age or younger at the start of employment, a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, and possess a valid Social Insurance Number.
- A strong interest in pursuing a career in the arts, with preference given to practicing artists or students in Fine Arts, Art History, or Curatorial Studies.
- Proficiency in creating digital and social media content.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Premiere).
- Demonstrated ability in community engagement and understanding of the challenges faced by youth in urban settings.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong organizational abilities, and a proven capacity to work collaboratively within a team.
- A valid class 5 driver's license and access to a vehicle is advantageous.
- Candidates will be required to provide a clear criminal record check and a child abuse registry check.
