Job Overview

General Information:
Reporting to the Manager of School & Public Programs, the Exhibit Facilitator plays a crucial role in interpreting exhibits and leading informal educational activities within Museum and Science Galleries. This position involves engaging with the general public and organized groups, while also providing support to other staff members in daily operations. The individual must demonstrate initiative and independent judgment when interacting with diverse audiences, all while maintaining an enthusiastic and dynamic presence. Availability for weekday, evening, and weekend shifts is essential.

Compensation:
The remuneration for this role is hourly.

Key Responsibilities:

Maintain a visible presence in the galleries to guide crowds, interpret exhibits, and facilitate informal learning experiences for both school groups and the general public. Train and oversee volunteers. Acquire knowledge about departmental programs, permanent installations, and temporary exhibits as necessary. Respond to inquiries and provide information regarding all Museum programs and activities to the public. Monitor gallery activities to ensure compliance with rules and guidelines, and alert security when assistance is required. Assist Learning Facilitators, Science Communicators, and other staff with gallery activities. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge:

Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with staff, volunteers, and the public, particularly children. Interest and/or knowledge in Museum and Science Galleries' exhibits. Ability to work in an organized manner, both independently and collaboratively. Capacity to perform under pressure and meet deadlines. Understanding of professional business conduct, including reliability and punctuality. Proficiency in both official languages, with experience in a museum context being an asset. Eligibility for Smart Choices Responsible Service Certification.

Educational Background and Experience:

Completion of Grade XII, and At least one year of experience working with the public and/or children, including experience in crowd management and supervision, or An equivalent combination of education and experience.

This is a part-time temporary position with an hourly wage plus vacation pay.
