Role Overview
The Payroll Operations Manager is tasked with overseeing all facets of payroll processing, auditing, and service delivery. This position requires effective management of the payroll delivery team, which includes supervisors and specialists, ensuring payroll execution is accurate and timely while complying with organizational policies and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Payroll Management: Direct the payroll services for a large organization, encompassing over 100 divisions and more than 45,000 employees across the USA and Canada. Lead the payroll team to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll and benefits transactions in alignment with Service Level Agreements.
- Compliance Oversight: Stay informed about relevant legislation and regulations to ensure compliance within the payroll function. Establish best practices and communicate compliance updates to the payroll teams.
- System Expertise: Provide training on payroll systems and processes. Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements for system enhancements and work with support teams to optimize processes.
- Audit and Review: Develop payroll audit procedures to ensure compliance and accuracy. Investigate payroll discrepancies and implement process improvements.
- Training and Development: Collaborate with leadership to set performance targets for the payroll team. Continuously evaluate payroll processes for effectiveness and identify opportunities for optimization.
- Team Leadership: Mentor and develop the payroll team to foster high performance and continuous improvement. Conduct performance evaluations and support professional growth.
Qualifications
- Proven organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Experience in handling sensitive and confidential information.
- Detail-oriented with a strong track record of delivering high-quality results.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel for reporting and data analysis.
- Experience leading teams through transitions and efficiency improvements.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5-7 years of experience managing payroll functions for large enterprises.
- Experience with Ceridian Dayforce for payroll processing in the US and Canada.
- Previous leadership experience in a remote payroll team environment.
- Knowledge of payroll processing for unionized entities.
- Familiarity with expatriate and commuter payroll.
- Strong understanding of US and Canadian tax regulations.
- Experience in GL/Accounting reconciliation and reporting.
- Certification as a CPM or CPP is advantageous.
