Oncology Clinical Pharmacist

As a vital member of the BC Cancer team, the Oncology Clinical Pharmacist engages in specialized practices focused on oncology. This role encompasses the customization of medication therapies based on comprehensive patient data to formulate effective treatment strategies. Responsibilities also include educating healthcare professionals within the organization, delivering drug-related information to patients and medical staff, and mentoring pharmacy students and residents. The pharmacist is also responsible for the preparation and distribution of medications and related pharmaceutical products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Customize medication therapies for patients by reviewing patient records, evaluating clinical outcomes through direct patient interaction, and collaborating with healthcare teams to create tailored therapeutic plans.
  • Engage with patients and healthcare professionals to ensure optimal medication management, including developing discharge strategies for hospitalized patients and medication schedules for outpatients, while addressing patient inquiries and supporting the use of complementary treatment options.
  • Prepare and dispense medications and pharmaceutical supplies, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and standards.
  • Provide both verbal and written drug information to physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, as well as to patients through personalized counseling.
  • Assist in the provision of non-BCCA benefit medications, facilitating financial support options for patients through collaboration with external agencies.
  • Mentor pharmacy students and residents, fostering their professional development through guidance and supervision.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy with current registration as a Licensed Pharmacist in British Columbia.
  • Completion of a Hospital Pharmacy Residency Program.
  • Minimum of one year of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and training.

Additionally, the ideal candidate will possess:
  • Expertise in aseptic techniques, safe handling of cytotoxic medications, and strategies for providing drug information and critically reviewing medical literature.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Physical capability to perform job-related duties.
  • Proficiency in operating relevant equipment.
  • A commitment to understanding and promoting the Truth & Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action and related initiatives.
  • Awareness of the social, economic, and historical contexts affecting Indigenous communities, alongside a commitment to Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism principles.
