Oncology Clinical Pharmacist

As a vital member of the BC Cancer team, the Oncology Clinical Pharmacist engages in specialized pharmaceutical care within an oncology setting. This role encompasses the customization of medication therapies based on comprehensive patient assessments, collaboration with healthcare professionals, and the provision of drug-related education to various stakeholders, including patients and medical staff. The pharmacist is also responsible for the preparation and distribution of medications and related pharmaceutical products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Customize medication therapies for patients by reviewing patient records, evaluating clinical outcomes through direct patient interactions, and collaborating with healthcare teams to create tailored therapeutic plans.
  • Engage with patients and healthcare professionals to ensure optimal medication management, including developing discharge plans for hospitalized patients and medication schedules for outpatients, while also addressing patient inquiries and promoting understanding of treatment plans.
  • Prepare and dispense medications and pharmaceutical supplies, ensuring compliance with relevant healthcare regulations and standards.
  • Deliver both verbal and written drug information to physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, as well as provide individualized counseling to patients.
  • Support the healthcare team in securing non-BCCA benefit medications necessary for effective treatment, including liaising with patients and external agencies regarding financial assistance options.
  • Mentor pharmacy students and residents, providing guidance and supervision to foster their professional development.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy with current registration as a Licensed Pharmacist in British Columbia.
  • Completion of a Hospital Pharmacy Residency Program.
  • Minimum of one year of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and training.
