About the Role

The Clinical Social Worker plays a crucial role within a multidisciplinary team, reporting directly to the Program Manager. This position is designed to offer a comprehensive range of interventions aimed at assisting clients and their families in reaching their highest potential in terms of health and functionality. Key responsibilities include conducting psychosocial evaluations, providing adjustment and supportive therapy, crisis intervention, resource guidance, discharge planning, and case management.

The Social Worker actively engages in advocacy, educational initiatives, program development, and collaborative efforts on behalf of individuals and groups within both the healthcare institution and the broader community. This dynamic role requires the ability to work independently as well as in collaboration with others.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Delivering services as part of the Nova Scotia Collaborative Inflammatory Bowel Disease Program.
  • Providing support across the Rehabilitation and Supportive Care Services portfolio as needed.

Qualifications

  • A Master's Degree in Social Work from an accredited institution.
  • Current registration or eligibility for registration with the NSCSW.
  • A minimum of two years of clinical experience as a Social Worker.
  • Understanding of human behavior principles, including systems theory and family dynamics.
  • Familiarity with local community resources and agencies is advantageous.
  • A valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Experience with patients facing complex chronic health issues is preferred.
  • Experience in co-facilitating educational sessions with multidisciplinary teams is an asset.
  • Proficiency in additional languages is a plus, with French being preferred.
  • Successful external candidates must provide a criminal record check, including a Vulnerable Sector Search, prior to employment.

Work Schedule

  • Part-time position with a long-term assignment; approximately 45 hours bi-weekly.
  • Expected duration of the assignment is around 18 months.

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation for the Healthcare Social Worker (Masters) position is $49.05 per hour. Additionally, the Developmental Social Worker (Masters) role offers $36.02 per hour. Successful candidates may also qualify for a comprehensive benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
