Position Overview:

Hitachi Energy is a leader in providing innovative power and automation solutions across the entire energy value chain, contributing to a more efficient and sustainable power grid. We are currently looking for an ESG Regulatory & Product Material Compliance Counsel to oversee compliance efforts in the North American region. This position will be an integral part of our Global Competency Center within the Legal and Integrity business function, reporting directly to the Head of Regulatory Affairs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development and execution of the corporate ESG & Product Regulatory Compliance strategy.
  • Analyze, interpret, and provide guidance on ESG and Product Material Compliance regulations that affect Hitachi Energy's operations and product offerings.
  • Prioritize compliance requirements, assess implications, and facilitate effective risk management.
  • Ensure alignment of local and regional compliance strategies with global standards and practices.
  • Lead legal communications with regulatory authorities and collaborate with various business and functional teams.
  • Offer training and support to internal teams regarding ESG and Product Material Compliance regulations.
  • Manage cross-functional compliance projects effectively.
  • Integrate compliance measures into existing systems and processes, including digital platforms and ERP systems.
  • Contribute to the development of new processes and enhancements for ESG Regulatory and Product Material Compliance.
  • Proactively identify and address compliance challenges and issues.
  • Ensure adherence to corporate regulations and standards for ESG Regulatory and Product Material Compliance within the North American region.
  • Promote education and knowledge sharing within the organization.
  • Uphold the core values of safety and integrity, taking responsibility for actions while supporting colleagues and the organization.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school and admission to a U.S. State Bar, with at least 8-10 years of experience in ESG regulations, particularly in environmental compliance.
  • Familiarity with Chemistry, Materials Science, or Engineering principles.
  • Must possess work authorization to be employed by Hitachi Energy in the United States.
  • Exceptional communication skills across all levels of management in a complex organizational structure, with the ability to work remotely and adapt to change.
  • Extensive experience in multinational corporations with large matrix organizations.
  • Proven project management skills and experience in managing external consultants and legal firms.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and ERP systems (SAP).
  • A proactive and solution-oriented mindset to challenge existing practices.
  • Willingness to evolve the role in response to changing regulatory landscapes. Proficiency in English is required; additional languages are a plus. Willingness to travel (10-20%) is expected.
