Role Overview


Key Responsibilities:

The National Auto Claims Manager oversees the comprehensive auto claims process for our policyholders, facilitated by a team of licensed claims adjusters. This role requires staying informed about legislative and regulatory changes, providing direction, establishing procedures, and ensuring compliance in auto insurance claims.

Reporting to the VP of National Claims, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Implementing quality management principles to enhance operational efficiency and productivity, aligning processes with the organization's strategic goals.
  • Ensuring fair claim resolutions through meticulous adjudication, reinforcing quality standards at every stage of the claims process.
  • Utilizing management data to monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), operational trends, and cost control measures, providing insights to the Director.
  • Recruiting, training, and mentoring team members, clearly communicating objectives and equipping staff with the necessary tools for success.
  • Acting as a consultant on liability assessments, investigations, policy interpretations, negotiations, and reserve management for claims.
  • Leading performance management initiatives by setting expectations, tracking progress, and offering coaching and support to enhance team effectiveness.
  • Establishing and enforcing claims quality and customer service standards, analyzing issues, conducting audits, and recommending improvements.
  • Building relationships with auto representatives from carriers, sharing relevant information and aligning priorities.
  • Collaborating with external vendors to ensure compliance with carrier protocols and maintaining the value of services provided to policyholders.
  • Managing a departmental sub-function and facilitating education and training as necessary.
  • Administering individual settlement authority in line with carrier standards, approving payments that exceed adjusters' authority.
  • Addressing customer complaints by investigating issues, following up, and resolving situations in accordance with internal procedures.
  • Tracking complaints to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Ensuring bilingual client services are available to meet operational needs.
  • Monitoring the use of external service providers, recommending enhancements, and providing feedback to the Director and carriers.
  • Maintaining a manageable caseload as required by the business.

Candidate Profile


What We Are Looking For:

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • A university degree in Business Administration or a related field, or equivalent industry credentials.
  • A Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation; Financial Chartered Insurance Professional (FCIP) designation is a plus.
  • An active adjuster's license.
  • Extensive multi-line claims experience with a minimum of four years in claims adjusting and examination.
  • At least five years of experience in a supervisory or coaching capacity.
  • Familiarity with the Canadian regulatory landscape.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills across various business areas.
  • Excellent time management, project management, and organizational abilities to handle competing priorities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and general software applications.
  • Bilingualism in French is considered an asset.
