Senior Risk Analyst, Credit Unions (24-Month Contract)

Position Overview:
The B.C. Financial Services Authority (BCFSA) is dedicated to safeguarding the financial well-being of British Columbians during critical financial decisions. We oversee the province's financial services sector, which encompasses credit unions, real estate licensees, registered pension plans, insurance and trust companies, and mortgage brokers. Role Responsibilities:
This role involves leading and conducting assessments, monitoring, and evaluating the financial stability, business strategies, and regulatory adherence of financial institutions.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Formulates and maintains a risk-based supervisory approach for financial entities.
  • Conducts on-site evaluations of financial institutions to analyze business models, strategies, and products, identifying and assessing inherent risks and evaluating risk management controls.
  • Maintains an accurate and updated risk profile for institutions.
  • Drafts reports and recommendations concerning intervention levels and corrective actions for identified deficiencies.
  • Prepares supervisory communications and monitors institutions to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and implementation of corrective measures.
  • Manages relationships with stakeholders, including senior management and board members of institutions.
  • Evaluates macroeconomic, sectoral, and regulatory trends to assess their impact on provincially regulated financial institutions.
  • Contributes to the development of best practices in regulatory oversight.
  • Participates in the creation of internal policies, procedures, and tools.
  • Provides training and orientation to stakeholders within the area of responsibility.
  • Engages in and supports organizational transformation initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with British Columbia's supervisory framework for regulated financial sectors.
  • Proficiency in financial analysis methodologies.
  • Understanding of risk management principles and practices.
  • Capability to manage projects effectively.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, initiative, and discretion.
  • Skill in analyzing business plans and financial statements.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication abilities.

Educational Background:
A degree in business administration, statistics, or economics, along with several years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Relevant experience may include:

  • Financial analysis
  • Internal/external auditing
  • Risk management
  • Interpreting and applying legislation, regulations, and policies

Preference may be given to candidates with industry experience in insurance, credit unions, banking, trusts, or related sectors.
