The Ward Clerk at Grace Hospital plays a vital role in the healthcare team, providing administrative support and ensuring the smooth operation of the ward. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks, including:
- Providing exceptional patient care and service
- Managing patient records and confidential information
- Coordinating with healthcare professionals and teams
- Performing administrative duties, such as scheduling and data entry
- Maintaining a clean and organized work environment
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will have the following responsibilities:
- Act as a liaison between patients, families, and healthcare teams
- Manage patient flow and coordinate admissions, discharges, and transfers
- Process and maintain accurate and confidential patient records
- Provide administrative support to healthcare professionals and teams
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to a positive work environment
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Previous patient care experience, preferably in a hospital setting
- High school education, Manitoba standards, and completion of a recognized Unit Clerk training program
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions
- Basic computer skills and proficiency in hospital-based information systems
Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
- Medical terminology knowledge and typing/keyboarding skills
- Experience with scheduling systems and hospital-based information systems
- Indigenous language skills and knowledge of Indigenous customs and traditions
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Working Conditions
The Ward Clerk will work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, with frequent interruptions and a high level of patient contact. The successful candidate must be able to function effectively in this environment and maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.
