Chemistry Laboratory Instructor

Position Overview
This role involves delivering laboratory instruction, assessment, and oversight of students within the chemistry lab environment. The position requires the preparation of materials for laboratory use, in alignment with the curriculum established by the Chemistry faculty. A commitment to providing outstanding client-focused service to all stakeholders is essential.Key Responsibilities
- Laboratory Instruction and Demonstration:
- Conducts instructional sessions for students concerning the laboratory aspects of chemistry courses.
- Demonstrates proper equipment usage within the laboratory setting.
- Instructs students on safety protocols.
- Supervises students to ensure adherence to safety regulations.
- Develops and implements effective strategies to enhance student learning.
- Evaluation of Student Performance:
- Assesses written submissions and practical performance of students against laboratory standards.
- Assigns final grades based on laboratory performance.
- Offers additional support to students outside of scheduled lab hours.
- Preparation of Laboratory Materials:
- Evaluates new information to determine its relevance for student learning enhancement.
- Designs and assesses laboratory quizzes and examinations.
- Maintains and updates laboratory manuals.
- Creates supplementary instructional resources such as posters and information sheets.
- Researches and develops experiments for student engagement.
- Additional Duties:
- Maintains and updates laboratory report sheets.
- Keeps accurate records of student grades in the chemistry lab.
- Sets up laboratory equipment and demonstrations, ensuring functionality.
- Participates in the review and revision of laboratory materials.
- Stays current with developments in chemistry and laboratory instruction.
- May perform duties of Laboratory Technician II as necessary.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from an accredited post-secondary institution, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong understanding of laboratory equipment operation and maintenance, along with knowledge of safety protocols relevant to chemistry labs.
- Proficient in English, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and courteously with students, faculty, and staff.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Proficient in demonstrating proper laboratory techniques and maintaining confidentiality.
