Position Overview

The Centre for Education in Mathematics & Computing (CEMC) is a premier outreach organization in Canada, dedicated to enhancing engagement in mathematics and computer science. Situated within the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Waterloo, the CEMC serves as a vital connection for prospective undergraduate and graduate students and their families. With a significant online presence, the CEMC has developed extensive resources that have reached millions globally, particularly through initiatives like CEMC at Home.

The successful candidate will leverage their expertise as an exceptional educator to contribute to the CEMC's mission. This role involves leading the evaluation, design, development, and implementation of all electronic educational resources, ensuring alignment with departmental goals and providing strategic insights to senior management. The incumbent will assess the needs of various stakeholders, including educators, students, and parents, and create resources that address the unique challenges faced in diverse educational environments.

Key Responsibilities

Resource Development and Strategy

  • Formulate targeted strategies to enhance the utilization of CEMC's online outreach initiatives.
  • Advise senior management on the direction of electronic resources based on stakeholder needs.
  • Utilize analytics tools to track indicators of student success and satisfaction.
  • Evaluate existing resources and recommend improvements based on current pedagogical research.
  • Stay informed about emerging technologies to enhance individualized learning experiences.
  • Continuously refine strategies for CEMC's online presence and resource offerings.

Technical Design and Implementation

  • Oversee the technical development of e-learning resources for Grades 4 to 8.
  • Rapidly prototype and test new educational tools and functionalities.
  • Adapt to evolving technologies and maintain knowledge of best practices in instructional design.
  • Ensure compliance with web accessibility standards and enhance user experience.

Content Development

  • Manage the academic content for e-learning resources across specified grade levels.
  • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of curriculum topics in mathematics and computer science.
  • Research and propose new educational resources and outreach programs.

Project Management

  • Lead projects related to electronic resource development, ensuring timely and successful completion.
  • Provide accurate estimates for project timelines and budgets.
  • Communicate project status and any issues to senior management as needed.

Communication and Training

  • Share knowledge of new educational technologies with stakeholders.
  • Present research findings and strategic directions to various audiences.
  • Facilitate training sessions and maintain relationships with key campus representatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education or a related field.
  • 7-10 years of experience teaching at the Grade 4 to 6 level.
  • Proven experience in developing educational materials and digital media.
  • Strong project management skills in an educational context.
  • Familiarity with instructional design principles and e-learning best practices.
  • Advanced knowledge of relevant software and tools.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to travel as required for outreach initiatives.
