Mechanical Design Lead

About the Role
The Mechanical Design Lead will be a key member of the Systematix Inc Mechanical Design team, working closely with various departments to ensure project specifications are met and executed on schedule and budget.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical design of projects from start to finish, utilizing technical expertise and consulting skills to deliver high-quality results.
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and supervision to assigned mechanical design team members, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
- Assess customer specifications and processes to develop comprehensive conceptual designs, including supporting design calculations, schematics, and 3rd party equipment recommendations.
- Collaborate with internal and external customers to address issues and concerns, promoting creativity and resourcefulness in all interactions.
- Assist in developing project plans, budgets, and resource requirements, coordinating the efforts of the design team and ensuring seamless project execution.
- Work closely with Project Management to provide support, status reports, and ensure timely updates to the project schedule.
- Identify quote deficiencies, risks, and scope changes, submitting recommendations to the Director of Engineering.
- Liaise with the Project Management team to ensure timely updates to the project schedule.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including customers, consultants, and 3rd party vendors, to deliver high-quality results.
- Promote a collaborative and inclusive work style with the project team to conduct design reviews, I/O and functional reviews, safety risk assessments, certification support, design evaluations, and modifications as needed.
- Evaluate various mechanical products under consideration for purchase to determine their efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Produce accurate CAD layouts, manufacturing drawings, and bills of material.
- Review, evaluate, and improve upon engineering designs prepared by the design team, ensuring designs are safe, efficient, effective, and able to be manufactured prior to manufacturing release.
- Review team's drawings for accuracy, material selection, proper machining techniques, finishes, hardness, etc., and approve release for manufacturing.
- Review assembly bills of material prepared by the design team and approve for purchasing of 3rd party items.
- Assist the shop floor assembly team during the integration phase to resolve any issues and assist in the completion of the system.
- Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation.
- Develop strong customer relationships with the view to sourcing additional work and seeking out new potential opportunities.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with local, national, and international standards and legislation.
Requirements
- Post-Secondary education in mechanical engineering or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 5 years of engineering experience in industrial automation.
- Proficiency using AutoCAD and Solidworks.
- Proficiency using Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Strong written and verbal skills in the English language.
