Salary: $28.83 to $40.63 per hour ($52,470.60 to $73,946.60 per annum)

Key responsibilities

- Deliver programs, campaigns, and activities that engage students, staff, and faculty in advancing the University’s Sustainability Action Plan and Climate Action Plan.
- Create project documentation including charters, plans, schedules, and budgets.
- Manage projects and activities to remain within budget and on schedule.
- Maintain project files including scope, status, correspondence, and budget.
- Administer, track and maintain engagement programs including reporting requirements related to engagement.
- Build strong relationships across the university community and with external partners to foster collaboration and participation in sustainability initiatives.
- Develop and implement innovative outreach strategies to inspire action and increase awareness of sustainability goals.
- Coordinate and lead engagement events such as Earth Day, Sustainability Month, Commuter Challenge, and land-based education projects.
- Facilitate stakeholder engagement sessions to gather input and ensure inclusive participation.
- Dedicate time to building and nurturing relationships with Indigenous communities (internal and external) to support culturally respectful and collaborative sustainability efforts.
- Identify opportunities for new engagement programs and partnerships that advance sustainability objectives.
- Co-lead the delivery of the student Sustainability Ambassador volunteer program.
- Develop and implement sustainability community of practice.
- Coordinate volunteer teams for outreach and engagement activities.
- Support other department initiatives and team members as required.
- Act as a resource for the Sustainability Committee and other groups to support engagement activities.
- Create compelling digital content for websites, social media, newsletters, and UMToday articles to promote sustainability initiatives and events.
- Manage the department’s communication channels to ensure consistent and impactful messaging.
- Develop storytelling approaches that highlight successes and encourage community involvement.
- Prepare reports and updates on engagement outcomes to demonstrate impact and inform future strategies.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION/TRAINING:

- Bachelor’s degree in environmental studies, environmental sciences, natural resource management, education, planning, business or the natural sciences or a related field is required.
- Master’s degree is preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

- Two or more years of experience participating, planning and executing collaborative sustainability projects and programs is required.
- Have wide-ranging knowledge of sustainability practices is required.
- Understanding and experience influencing collective behavior to improve sustainability outcomes is required.
- Experience with ESRI GIS is an asset.
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

- Must be able to work within time and budget constraints.
- Tact and diplomacy are required.
- Strong written competencies including report and grant writing skills are required.
- Strong verbal communication skills that support dialogue with the various campus stakeholders are required.
- Strong partnership and relationship building skills, to work with multiple and diverse stakeholders with various mandates and differing viewpoints is required.
- Must be able to work with graphic programs such as Adobe CS/Adobe Express and social media platforms.
- Proficient with software systems to support the position. Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Projects) is required.
- Flexible and adaptable with troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities are required.
- Ability to conduct research independently is required.
- Ability to plan, organize and administer projects is required.
- Ability to build relationships, and work collaboratively with the OOS team, university students, staff and faculty and community partners is required.
- Ability to frame issues and design effective and energetic engagement with students, staff and faculty is required.
- Use knowledge and experience to use influence to advance projects and other sustainability efforts is required.
- Ability to use creative thinking to identify and execute opportunities is required.
- Ability to meet, engage and build collaborative relationships with stakeholders.
- Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.

OTHER JOB RELATED QUALIFICATIONS:

- Familiarity with the post-secondary setting is preferred.
