The Clinical Supervisor is a team member of Nodin's Outpatient Mental Health Service (OMHS) who participates with supervisees to ensure welfare of clients are protected through integrity of clinical services, and supervisees impart and maintain clinical and ethical standards. The supervisor monitors, observes, mentors, coaches, evaluates, inspires, and creates an atmosphere that promotes self-motivation, learning, and professional development. Nodin Mental Health Services is a mental health resource for First Nation children, youth, adults and families from remote First Nations communities served by SLFNHA.

OMHS is one of Nodin`s services, a multi-disciplinary team which provides assessment, counselling, group work, crisis intervention and safety planning with individuals demonstrating high risk behaviours, serious emotional/behavioural disorders, and trauma symptoms. Individuals referred to the OMHS travel from First Nation communities for a short stay in Sioux Lookout to receive support from a multi-disciplinary team. This team includes a Clinical Manager, Admin Assistant, Receptionist/Scheduler, Clinical Supervisors, Mental Health Counsellors, Substance Abuse Counsellors, an Indigenous Cultural Support Worker, Clinical Assistant, Psychologist, Expressive Arts Therapists, and Case Manager.

The Clinical Supervisor reports directly to the Outpatient Mental Health Clinical Manager.

The salary for the position is $97,730 – $125,799/annually.

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Persons of First Nations ancestry will be given preference (OHRC, Part II, Special Employment)
- Minimum level of education acceptable is equivalent to completion of a university (bachelor) program in one of the core mental health disciplines (i.e. social work, psychology).
- Minimum 5 years of mental health counselling experience is required
- Must be registered with a related professional body in Ontario for independent practice
- Must have received a minimum of 150 hours of clinical supervision and completed 30 hours of education in providing clinical supervision
- Must have clinical experience working with children, youth, adults and families
- Must have clinical experience working with complex cases, concurrent disorders, trauma, high risk behaviours etc.
- Previous supervisory and leadership experience is preferred
- Must have a sound understanding of the underlying theoretical principles and concepts associated with mental health education
- Proficiency in clinical assessment and treatment
- Excellent communication (written and verbal), problem solving, time management, organizational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to take initiative, be adaptable, multi-task, meet deadlines, and work independently in a fast-paced and ever changing environment
- Highly skilled in building relationships with internal staff, external customers, and communities
- Experience and understanding of First Nations culture, history, the geographic realities and social
- Experience working with First Nations people and in northern communities an asset
- Ability to communicate in one of the First Nations dialects of the Sioux Lookout region is an asset
- The ability to perform the requirements of the position on a regular basis.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

- Monitor counsellors to ensure consistent application of organizational policies and procedures, standard operating procedures, clinical procedures, performance expectations, productivity benchmarks, and standards of their positions
- Assess clinical records (i.e. session notes, assessments, intervention, treatment plans) to ensure clients receive the necessary level of care
- Ensure documentation meets requirements; provide feedback and address any issues
- Make sure Counsellors are sufficiently providing case management
- Make sure there is timely response, active involvement and thorough documentation for all high-risk cases
- Ensure accountability for case files and any legal/ethical issues are dealt with in a timely manner
- Maintain a tracking system of high risk clients to ensure that service is being provided
- Conduct weekly individual supervision meetings to review referrals and all cases; for accountability, discussion, planning and direction
- Enter clinical direction provided to supervisees into electronic mental health records
- Promote the development of counselling skills/approaches through evaluations and feedback
- Guide supervisees to use best practices/develop creative interventions to help clients
- Provide crisis intervention support and facilitate group debriefing
- Provide standard orientation to new direct reports
- Schedule the work of direct reports
- Establish and maintain working relationships with communities through updating the community resource profiles, reviewing community mental health data, and supporting community specific mental health programming
- Collect data and analyze against productivity and quality benchmarks and efficiencies
- Submit summary reports on each supervision meeting held with Counsellors and other reports as requested by the Clinical Manager (e.g. for funders, Senior Management)
- Maintain a tracking system for all discharges and ensure follow-up plans are actioned within mandated area
- Ensure adequate coverage for services is maintained participating in the hiring process
- Perform probationary and annual performance appraisals
- Conduct regular staff meetings as per policy
- Regular supervision with Clinical Manager for consultation on supervisees, own performance, and to discuss any issues
- Submission of reports prior to supervision with Clinical Manager for review and discussion
- Work with the Clinical Manager and Director of Treatment Services to ensure staff training needs are addressed and train as requested
- Document and address any staffing issues; carrying out disciplinary action requirements
