About the Opportunity

This is an exciting role that will focus on social media, email marketing, and design. The Communications Coordinator will leverage our digital platforms to showcase our impact while promoting the need for ongoing support.

Reporting to the Sr. Manager of Marketing & Communications, this position will work collaboratively across departments to engage with diverse internal and external audiences, including CAN participants and families, staff and volunteers, donors and supporters, and the general public.

The successful candidate will be confident in a) developing social media content across channels, b) distilling large amounts of written information into concise and engaging newsletters, and c) using design software to create a range of marketing collateral.

About Canucks Autism Network (CAN)

Canucks Autism Network (CAN) is a charitable organization dedicated to providing programs for individuals on the autism spectrum and their families while promoting acceptance and inclusion through community engagement and training initiatives across BC. Our vision is for every Autistic individual to be understood, accepted, and supported in all community spaces.

We engage a workforce of over 200 volunteers and 450 frontline staff to deliver programs for children, youth, and adults on the spectrum in communities across British Columbia. Since its inception in 2008, CAN has directly impacted over 8,000 individuals on the autism spectrum.

Key Functions (Main aspects of position)

Social Media

- Develop content across Facebook, Instagram, X, and LinkedIn
- Monitor social media activity across channels and respond to frontline inquiries
- Receive, distill, and curate photos and videos from staff and user-generated content
- Monitor and track social media analytics to inform the development of content

Email Marketing

- Create monthly e-newsletters for participants and families, frontline staff, volunteers, and/or donors and supporters
- Copy-edit and distill information provided by other departments
- Update and segment distribution lists on an ongoing basis
- Monitor and track email marketing analytics to inform the development of content

Print & Digital Design

- Design print and digital collateral, including posters, brochures, ads, programs, info packages, tipsheets, sponsorship packages, and program curricula

General Marketing & Communications Support

- Maintain ongoing knowledge and mastery of brand and messaging guidelines
- Maintain an understanding of the organization's diverse efforts across programs, training, and fundraising
- Assist with ongoing website updates

Requirements

- Post-secondary education (degree or diploma) in Communications, Marketing, or related field and 1-2 years of experience in Marketing & Communications role, or a combination of both.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

- Creating and curating engaging social media content
- Design and multimedia skills
- Copywriting and copy-editing skills
- Attention to detail
- Ability to multitask and work independently
- Ability to master new software and processes

*Additional Skills*

- Not required, but certainly an asset. The successful candidate will familiarize themselves with these skills as they progress in the job.
- Understanding of autism
- Proficiency with Mailchimp or other email marketing software
- Experience using social media management/analytics tools
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite or equivalent digital media editing
