Role and Facility Information
Come work as a Medical Coordinator, Vancouver Community with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) The Medical Coordinator for Raven Song Mental Health and Substance Use (MHSU) Services is accountable to the program Medical Director Vancouver Community MHSU to provide medical leadership for the adult mental health and addiction medicine program at Raven Song Community Health Centre in Vancouver.
The Medical Coordinator, who must be a practicing physician in MHSU at the site, is accountable for the effective and efficient functioning of the program, in partnership with the operations leaders, and in fostering a collaborative inter-professional environment to enhance client-centered service.
The physician will play a critical role in linking their portfolio with other community health and acute hospital services to address the ongoing needs of clients and families in the service continuum. This entails engagement with key internal and external stakeholders to achieve excellence in client and family centered care. The medical coordinator will promote the strategic goals and values central to Vancouver Coastal Health that include a focus on accessibility, diversity, innovation, and quality of service.
Other priorities include facilitating involvement of clinical learners and research and serving as a liaison between the physicians and the medical director and operations manager, and assists the medical director in recruitment, retention, and performance management of medical staff. An active involvement in quality and change initiatives that span Vancouver Community MHSU is required.
This position requires a commitment of at least two days of clinical work at Raven Song MHSU. The expected time commitment for administrative and leadership activities is three hours per week.
Qualifications:
A medical degree and eligibility for or licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia supplemented by medical leadership experience within a health care organization and a three or more years in independent clinical practice. All VCH physicians must be appointed as medical staff of Vancouver Coastal Health. A clinical faculty appointment with the University of British Columbia Faculty of Medicine is expected given involvement in education of clinical learners.
In addition, the candidate will have:
1. Experience in a community mental health setting preferably working with marginalized populations;
2. Experience in caring for and treating people with mental illness, addiction, and concurrent disorders.
3. A demonstrated ability to work as a member of an inter-professional health care team.
4. A commitment to health care quality improvement with some relevant experience or training.
5. A demonstrated commitment to on-going learning and professional development.

6. Provides timely and appropriate advice and consultation utilizing effective targeted communication strategies to gain acceptance of recommendations and to facilitate effective decision making and operations within the intent of the medical by-laws.
7. Monitors the efficiency and provision of safe care of the program to meet the goals and maintain the objectives of the program and organization.
8. Authorizes physician sessional billings and monitors the utilization of mental health physician budget for physicians in the program.
9. Engages in quality improvement priorities identified by medical and operational leadership in collaboration with physicians.
10. Facilitates education and research in collaboration with academic partners and operational management.
