Job Summary

This position will expand IWC’s grant portfolio by securing new resources and laying the foundation for long‑term funding diversification. It is not a one‑time “proposal writer” role, it combines grant writing expertise with relationship building and strategic alignment of IWC’s programs and impact with external opportunities.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Communications, Public Administration, Business, Social Sciences, Non‑profit Management, or a related discipline.

- A Master’s degree in one of these areas or in Public Policy, Fundraising, or Strategic Management is considered an asset.

- An equivalent combination of education and significant experience in grant development, fundraising, or institutional relations will also be considered.

- 5‑7+ years of proven success in grant writing or institutional funding, with a track record securing significant (5–6 figure) grants.

- Demonstrated ability to identify and qualify opportunities across provincial, municipal, foundation and corporate streams.

- Exceptional writing and editing skills; persuasive communicator across diverse audiences.

- Skilled at relationship management; able to cultivate trust and sustain partnerships.

- Project management strength; coordinates across teams and meets deadlines under pressure.

- Equity‑centered, collaborative, and committed to newcomer success, understands the complexity of IWC’s services and brings cultural humility.

- Values‑driven and resilient: able to adapt to changing contexts, balance short‑term wins with long‑term strategy, and keep opportunities moving forward.

Skills & Expertise

Grant Writing & Proposal Development

- Proven ability to develop winning proposals and budgets aligned to program priorities and funder interests.

- Strong technical writing and editing skills; able to tailor persuasive narratives to different funders.

- Skilled at compliance and reporting management.

Government, Foundation & Corporate Grants

- Prospect research and qualification skills; able to spot and pursue new opportunities.

- Knowledge of Canadian grant tools/databases (Grant Connect, Charity CAN, iWave, etc.).

- Ability to align funder priorities with IWC’s mission and outcomes.

Relationship Building & Stewardship

- Builds and maintains strong relationships with funders/partners/clients/individual donors.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to represent IWC with credibility and professionalism.

- Ability to connect program impact and outcome data to funder interests.

Strategic & Analytical Skills

- Synthesizes complex program information into funder‑ready narratives.

- Data‑literate: able to contribute to and use IWC’s measurement framework to support grant proposals and reports.

- Strong project management; juggles multiple deadlines with accuracy.

Duties and Responsibilities

1.
Grant Development & Management

This role will lead the identification, development, and management of grant opportunities to diversify IWC’s funding base. Responsibilities include:

- Identify, research, and qualify prospective funders (federal programs, provincial programs, municipal opportunities, corporate grants, and community and family foundations).

- Lead development and submission of high‑quality proposals, letters of inquiry, and supporting materials.

- Collaborate with program, finance, and leadership staff to craft clear, compelling narratives, budgets, and outcome metrics.

- Track and manage proposal and reporting deadlines; deliver timely, accurate funder reports.

- Maintain an organized grants calendar and active pipeline.

2.
Relationship Building & Stewardship

Beyond proposals, this role will cultivate and manage relationships with key funders. Responsibilities include:

- Build and sustain relationships with program officers, corporate managers, and foundation contacts.

- Provide ongoing stewardship through communication, reporting, and impact storytelling.

- Represent IWC externally at meetings, briefings, and sector events to strengthen visibility and networks.

3.
Strategic Contribution & Future Growth

The role will also contribute to IWC’s longer‑term strategic growth by:

- Collaborating with leadership to identify new opportunities beyond Hamilton (e.g., expansion, fee‑for‑service).

- Providing input to IWC’s diversification roadmap.

- Working with the team to begin laying the foundation for future fundraising capacity.

- Supporting the integration of outcome data and impact storytelling into proposals and reports.
