The Rotman Institute of Philosophy integrates scientific and philosophical analysis to address complex and socially relevant questions that can only be addressed by marshalling our efforts across disciplinary boundaries.

**Responsibilities**:
The Administrative Officer will ensure the smooth and efficient coordination of administrative operations in the Rotman Institute of Philosophy, providing guidance, support and daily coordination of administrative, human resources, financial and communications processes, in accordance with Western’s policies and procedures. The Administrative Officer will serve as a point of contact for inquiries related to the Institute, and as a liaison for a variety of stakeholders (e.g. researchers, trainees, and community and industry partners). The role will work closely with the Institute Director and Executive Committee, as well as the Director of Western Research Institutes in the Vice-President (Research) Office to support the vision and mandate of the Institute.

**Qualifications**:

- Education:
- Undergraduate Degree in Management and Organizational Studies, Business Administration, or related field
- Completion or working towards Certified Human Resources Professional, and/or Canadian Institute of Management Designation preferred
- Experience:
- 5 years' administrative, human resources, and financial experience in a complex office environment
- Experience in a research or academic environment preferred
- Experience managing and overseeing staff and projects would be an asset
- Experience supporting strategic planning, implementation and operationalization preferred
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of general office procedures, financial budgeting principles and Human Resources principles and practices
- Ability to ensure expenditures and resources are within allotments, and to make appropriate modifications when required
- Ability to translate information into easily understood terms, summarize information, and provide a rationale for action
- Communication skills with an ability to complete detailed analytics and reports
- Ability to work in a manner that models best practices in confidentiality standards
- Ability to delegate work and provide team members with clear direction and support in meeting their objectives
- Customer service skills to understand customer needs and expectations, with a desire to deliver helpful and reliable service
- Detail-oriented with an ability to function and process information with high levels of accuracy
- A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation and conflict resolution skills
- Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
- Influential interpersonal skills that build positive and strong relationships at all levels of the organization
- Organizational skills to manage multiple assignments that are accurate and thorough, sometimes of a complex nature or involving competing priorities
- Problem solving skills with a sense of urgency in resolving issues and getting tasks completed
- Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve department goals
