Reporting to the Supervisor, Neighbourhood Traffic, this position helps lead the development and implementation of data driven road safety improvements and programs.

**Responsibilities**:

- Coordinate the planning, scheduling, execution, analysis and archiving of proactive and reactive traffic studies, such as speed surveys, intersection turning movement counts, crossing guard counts, and related warrant analysis.
- Lead the ongoing development of new or revision to existing traffic and pedestrian safety programs and procedures, such as Automated Speed Enforcement, traffic calming, pedestrian facilities, crossing guard warrants, etc.
- Participate in the hiring of and provide daily direction to junior staff, consultants, and contractors in completion of various traffic surveys, studies, data analysis and other related tasks.
- Lead custody and regular updating of the town’s Traffic By-law.
- Plan specific traffic safety improvement projects, based on established and emerging programs (Automated Speed Enforcement), including preparation of technical drawings, public consultation, and creation of work orders for traffic control devices and regulatory signs.
- Provide written and verbal responses to inquiries, including any required research and analysis, site visits, counts and observations, and follow-up inclusion of the item in any relevant program.
- Review subdivision/site plan drawings for appropriate pavement markings, multi-modal facilities, on-street parking, signage and traffic calming features, etc. based on established standards, policies and procedures.
- Prepare and present reports in all areas of responsibility to Council and the public, as required.
- Perform field investigations of site conditions, sight line concerns, actual traffic/pedestrian behaviour, and installation/removal of various traffic monitoring equipment
- Cooperate with other town departments and groups to provide expertise, perform ad-hoc investigations, assist with budget preparations, provide data and information to other agencies, consultants, etc.

**Qualifications**:

- Successful completion of a three-year diploma or degree in Engineering Technology or applied Science combined with 3 to 5 years related experience.
- Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) designation.
- Knowledge of specialized traffic software (e.g. TES), Geographical Information System (GIS), and work order systems.
- Must be able to interpret and understand Engineering Construction drawings and subdivision/site plans.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills to represent the Department in a professional and courteous manner in dealings with contractors, consultants, and the public.
- Knowledgeable and familiar with MTO Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (UTCD).
- Familiarity with processes to amend traffic by-laws.
