Abbotsford, Canada The Salvation Army Full time

The Community Ministries Worker provides holistic leadership to a limited range of community-based programs in accordance with Salvation Army mission, values and standards. This involves assisting individuals and families who are seeking aid and assistance from or have been referred to The Salvation Army.

**Hours**: 35 per week.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Ensures that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is exemplified in the performance of all job responsibilities and through personal example
- Provides spiritual guidance and uses every opportunity to pray with and share the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ with program participants, staff and volunteers, endeavoring to assimilate them into the Body of Christ, as appropriate (including linking participants to the church family and church programs where possible)
- Develops, oversees, implements, coordinates, and may facilitates community-based programs to make a positive impact on the community (May include but not limited to Play Café, Seniors programs, Just Show Up, Messy Church, Community Meals, Brave, Pathway of Hope, Children’s Summer Camp Initiatives, Red Cap, TASK, or Music programs)
- Recruit and train community partners, and volunteers to facilitate community-based programs (May include by not limited to Play Café, Seniors Day Program, Just Show Up, Messy Church, Community Meals, Brave, Pathway of Hope, Children’s Summer Camp Initiatives, Red Cap, TASK, or Music programs)
- Promotes community-based programs internally and externally as required, fostering positive relationship with community partners and agencies
- Participates in program strategy development
- Various administrative duties which include documentation, tracking statistics and assisting other program staff/volunteers as needed
- Assists the Corps Officer with ongoing strategic planning to ensure programming reflects client needs as these may evolve in our changing socioeconomic climate
- Provides input into the preparation of an operating budget for the community ministries programs and monitors/manages financial performance accordingly
- Provides input in the development and implementation of policies and procedures for Community Ministries programs
- Networks with Salvation Army, government, and community social service providers to coordinate resources for the benefit of clients and program
- May direct and supervise volunteers, which includes recruitment, selection, orientation, training, evaluation, and discipline
- In collaboration with the Fundraising Coordinator to coordinate/organize annual Christmas Kettle Campaign.
- Coordinate volunteers and personnel for Christmas Kettle campaign and Angel Tree table in the mall
- Performs other duties as assigned

NOTE: Not all incumbents perform all of the duties described above but perform a similar range of duties.

**Supervision**:

- Reports directly to the Corps Officer
- Supervises up to 160 volunteers seasonally
- Supervises 2 part-time staff, seasonal Kettle staff (45), and summer day camp staff (3)

**Organizational Responsibilities**:

- Adheres to standards consistent with the values and philosophy of The Salvation Army
- Supports and promotes the vision, values, and mission of The Salvation Army Cascade Community Church and its committees and leadership teams
- Participates fully and constructively in staff meetings and in-service training
- Takes part as a member of the Management Team, Stewardship Council, and Community Council
- Engages in regular meetings with supervisor - Corps Officer
- Engages in formal evaluation sessions with supervisor at three to twelve months in the first year of employment and annually thereafter
- Completes thorough employee evaluations for those employees directly supervised and assists supervisors with other evaluations
- Reads, follows, and suggests improvements to The Salvation Army Abbotsford Policy and Procedures Manual
- Represents the organization in a professional manner at all times

**QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS**:
**Education/Certifications**:

- The successful job applicant will have completed up to two (2) years of Community College.
- Current Certification in First Aid/CPR

**Experience**:

- One year but less than three years of prior related experience, including, experience in a variety of social service programs, with some supervisory experience, and experience communicating orally and in writing.

**PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES**:

- Demonstrate a high level of integrity, good judgment, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Capable of establishing and maintaining positive interpersonal relationships and ability to work as an effective team member with limited supervision.
- Proficiency with social media (Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter).
- Ability to present program materials in a clear concise and comfortable manner.
- Ability to teach and lead various activities.
- Demonstrated ability to work with and relate to young people and parents.
