**Position Summary**
Reporting to the Dean of the School of Advancement, the Chair is accountable for providing academic and administrative leadership, supervision, support and direction to full time and part time faculty teaching in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences. The Chair is accountable for the planning, development, delivery and ongoing quality review of General Education, Liberal Studies, GNED 500 courses and the Cannabis program. The Chair is responsible for the integration of the principles and practices of a Learning Centred College and accountable for the integration of the principles of Indigenization, decolonization, and equity, diversity, and inclusion in all areas of the department. The Chair is also responsible for the development of new courses, programs, and special initiatives as identified in the College’s Strategic and Business Plans, School’s business plan and/or sector/environmental research including part-time learning.

**Responsibilities**
- Ensures the quality, academic integrity and consistency of delivery of the General Education and Liberal Studies courses through academic planning, administrative leadership, supervision to faculty, administrative and support staff, and on-going curriculum and pedagogical review and renewal
- Works collaboratively in the development and delivery of General Education and Liberal Studies course curriculum across the College, undertaking ongoing review of courses and pedagogy, maintaining a high level of educational standards to meet the needs of students/departments by providing appropriate and relevant courses throughout the academic year
- Facilitates the development and implementation of new General Education and Liberal Studies course curriculum, engages in ongoing review of existing curriculum including CCQR (Comprehensive Course Quality Review) to ensure consistency, relevancy, and currency while meeting Ministry requirements.
- Launches new program opportunities for part-time learners in collaboration with industry partners and Program Advisory Committees. Establishes learning outcomes for programs according to provisions set out in College and Ministry policies. Promotes the integration of technology into both curriculum and pedagogical practices by inspiring and supporting faculty to examine and experiment with new educational technology
- Actively seeks funding for curriculum renewal, professional development and instructional technology and identifies potential funding sources and writes effective proposals to achieve funding.
- Works with the School College Initiative division to ensure relevant courses are offered for Dual Credit students.
- Works with Schools to establish courses to be offered in the Foundations programs.
- Participates in the development of the school’s yearly business plan, priorities and objectives which support the College’s Strategic and Business Plans.
- Accountable for the planning and enrolment of courses/part-time programs by semester. Plans General Education and Liberal Studies course offerings with the Scheduling Department, Schools and Department Chairs, Operation Mangers, and the Corporate Planning Office for implementation throughout the academic year.
- Leads student success initiatives including retention strategies
- Works collaboratively with student support departments (International, Center for Accessible Learning and Counselling, and Student Relations) to resolve issues, hears academic grade appeals and cases involving academic dishonesty and makes decisions on sanction in accordance with policy.
