About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Strategic Insurance and Risk Management Director to join our team at the University of British Columbia.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the development, implementation, and oversight of the university's insurance and loss prevention program. This is a strategic role that requires a deep understanding of risk management principles, insurance policies, and contracts.

This position will act as the leader and key expert for the university with respect to short- and long-term risk management and procurement strategies for a large corporate insurance program. The incumbent will also set the direction and lead the strategic development, implementation, and oversight of the university's loss prevention program to address high-priority risks based on data analysis and stakeholder input.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement risk-based decision-making processes for insurance procurements, claims management, and other related systematic functions.
  • Lead and facilitate assessments and evaluations of insurable risks and hazards for the institution and provide recommendations and mitigation strategies.
  • Provide expertise in developing, implementing, and overseeing the university's loss prevention program, including strategies, practices, and measures to mitigate and protect the university community and its valued assets.
  • Analyze risk and formulate risk management strategies and provide input and leadership with respect to the institutional appetite and alignment to the Safety & Risk Services Strategic Plan.
  • Develop and oversee the management of complex insurance claims, working with insurers, brokers, adjusters, and internal and external legal counsel as required.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • An undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline, such as business, finance, or risk management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in overseeing highly complex insurance and loss prevention programs.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and strategically.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • A strong commitment to enhancing one's own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

We offer a competitive salary range of $107,428 CAD per month, commensurate with experience.
