Alternative Response Officer

**Key Responsibilities**
Under the direction of the Alternative Response Sergeant, the Alternative Response Officer Special Constable is responsible for providing investigative and enforcement support to police Constables, Corporals, and Sergeants, as well as limited direct service to the public.
(1) Conduct foot patrol in the downtown area (the beat), which will include enforcement of provincial statutes under the following authorities: The Traffic Safety Act, The Tobacco and Vapor Products Control Act, The Cannabis Control Act, The Environmental Management and Protection Act, The Mental Health Services Act, The Trespass to Property Act, and The Alcohol and Gaming Regulation Act.
(2) Execute non-violent provincial statute and criminal code arrest warrants.
(3) Assist Patrol in intervening in on-view disturbances when tactically sound to do so.
(4) Facilitates outreach and referral processes for vulnerable persons, and locates missing persons.
(5) Assist Patrol, Traffic, and CTSS with traffic enforcement related matters, including but not limited to; moving speed trailer from location to location, delivering extra equipment or administrative forms to accident scenes or traffic project locations, parking as a traffic calming vehicle on a roadway back from an accident scene, and provide a traffic calming escort when applicable.
(6) Responsible for the loading, transport, and unloading of prisoners from Regina Police Service Headquarters to Provincial Court, and transports on-view non-violent arrests. Transports non-violent vulnerable persons to appropriate intervention locations. Transport youth apprehended under the Youth Drug Detoxification and Stabilization Act to a medical facility.
(7) Writes initial reports for follow up by police Constables, Corporals, and Sergeants. Receives and exhibits found property and property crime non-imagery evidence turned over by citizens. Retrieves photo/video evidence from complainants that cannot otherwise be transferred to the Service via electronic means.
(8) Provides relief for officers in Detention, and Inquiry Desk.
(9) Guarding of crime scenes and crime vehicles determined to be low-risk but requiring sworn member presence: pre-autopsy, pre-search warrant for property, post-search warrant until property owner/agent or Tow Company can attend and secure/take custody of the premises/vehicle.
(10) Meet with Cornwall Security, Transit Supervisors, and Mobile Crisis Services to discuss problem citizens and problem areas, and relay that information to the Alternative Response Sergeant for appropriate dissemination.
(11) Attend community events as required.
(12) Assists with other related duties.
**Competencies**
(1) Grade 12 or Grade 12 equivalent and fully competent in the use of the English language. Any post-secondary education will be considered an asset.
(2) Must be able to successfully complete the Alternative Response Officer selection process, including the Peace officer’s Physical Abilities Test (POPAT) in a time of 4:45 minutes or better.
(3) Must be able to successfully complete the Province of Saskatchewan Community Safety Officer training program or equivalent.
(4) Must be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
(6) Adaptability: Adjusts own behaviour and approaches in light of new information, and changing situations. Recognizes the need to adapt to change.
(7) Ability to contribute positively in a teamwork environment.
(8) Displays self - motivation and the ability to take initiative.
(9) Stress tolerance: Remains focused and professional during prolonged, distracting and stressful situations.
(10) Proficient use of computers, particularly Windows based platforms; Ability to learn and operate IEIS and CJIMS systems.
(11) Must possess a valid Class 5 Saskatchewan Driver’s License, free of Novice restrictions, and provide a current drivers’ abstract.
(12) Must be willing to work rotating shifts (12 hour).

Pay: $55,776.00-$94,874.00 per year
