**Course description**:
This course teaches basic programming skills to non-programmers and introduces them to the value of those skills. Students will learn about the various capabilities of the R programming language and participate in discussions about the purpose of programming including task automation and interactive web design. Students will be introduced to elementary data types, control flow and functions as well as functional and object oriented programming. Students will practice approaches to problem solving with computer programs and learn debugging strategies. By the end of the course, students are expected to create a program that helps them solve a problem or perform a task (either self-chose or assigned) in the context of data science.

**Sessional Dates of Appointment**:May 23rd - August 31st, 2023

**Salary**:16,764.80 (includes 4% vacation pay)

**Minimum Qualifications**:PhD and/or industry experience required, plus teaching experience in accredited courses at a recognized university. A Master’s or higher degree in the life sciences and/or management is an asset. Experience with courses focused on biotechnology management and experience with entrepreneurship are highly desirable assets.

**Preferred Qualifications**: Same as minimum qualifications.

**Description of Duties**:All normal duties related to the design, teaching and delivery of a University credit course including: Selecting and inviting a series of speakers if deemed appropriate. Coordinating student team projects. Meeting with each of the student teams to guide/advise them on their projects. Holding office hours as required. Marking/evaluating; recording student attendance; recording and submitting grades; and communicating with students on course related matters.
