**Course description**:
Taught in English and open to all students. How can we define "Germany" both historically and in its modern and increasingly multicultural context? How did Germany become the political and economic powerhouse of the European Union? How can we reflect on the Holocaust using identity, nationality and memory? These and other broad questions are examined in their cultural, social and intellectual context from the Middle Ages to the present.

**Sessional dates of appointment**: January 1, 2024 to April 30, 2024

**Salary**:
Sessional Lecturer I - $9,457.90 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)

Sessional Lecturer I Long Term - $9,930.79 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)

Sessional Lecturer II - $10,121.77 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)

Sessional Lecturer II Long Term - $10,326.62 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)

Sessional Lecturer III - $10,362.76 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)

Sessional Lecturer III Long Term - $10,570.02 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)

Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

**Minimum qualifications**:
PhD in German Studies is required.

Demonstrated experience teaching university-level German language and/or culture courses is required.

(Near-)native competence in spoken and written German is required.

**Preferred qualifications**:
Demonstrated excellence in teaching this course, or a similar course at the university-level, is preferred.

Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II and Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12.
