Off-campus Housing and Community Connections

Under the direction of the Associate Dean, Community Citizenship, Student Leadership & Engagement, the incumbent contributes to the successful transition and retention of students at Sheridan through the provision of supports and services related to safe off campus housing, and access to basic needs and community resources. The incumbent works with students and off campus housing providers to sustain existing rental opportunities and identify additional housing solutions through the creation of strong community partnerships. The incumbent facilitates educational awareness sessions and workshops for students, staff, and community members related to off campus housing; tenant rights; Be a Good Neighbour, Citizenship Development (civic responsibilities) and community safety. In addition, the incumbent creates and updates a robust suite of communications materials (print, digital) for marketing and educational purposes and collects and analyzes data for reporting on impact and presentations to leadership. The incumbent is also responsible for supporting the facilitation of internal projects, the Student Refugee program and participating in related working groups and committees.
What You’ll be Doing
Guiding students during their housing search including locating safe affordable vacancies and housing preferences for campuses in all three cities;
Responding to student requests for information and support including support locating emergency housing and/or local hotels;
Making referrals to specialized resources including the Landlord Tenant Board, city’s By-law and Enforcement office and other legal supports;
Supporting students who are living off-campus to transition to communities and educate them on their rights as a tenant;
Collaborating with internal and external partners to maintain up to date information and resources available for students. This includes housing partnerships such as Places4Stuents, Canada Home Stay Network, and Canada Home Share;
Supporting student’s access to basic needs including access to culturally appropriate food, community connections (sense of belonging), community agencies, settlement agencies, peer groups, and cultural/religious organizations;
Working with external partnerships including Fire, Police, By-law and Enforcement and Municipal resources in all three cities to organize events and maintain up to date resources;
Promoting personal and fire safety resources and workshops to students living off-campus including overseeing fire alarm distribution;
Maintaining and updating internal and external housing web pages and student portals for both the Off-Campus Housing, Living in the Community and the Citizenship page;
Creating and updating digital and print resources including the International Recruitment Toolkit, Student Housing Guide, Off-Campus Housing Checklist and Roommate Agreement and other resources as required;
Creating presentations for off-campus housing based on the student lifecycle (Pre-arrival sessions, New Student Orientation, Bruins Bootcamp, integration of resources between semesters);
Developing and delivering presentations related to the main topics of the Be a Good Neighbour Guide. This includes educating students on their responsibilities in the community and their rights in the community and how to stay safe in the community;
Focusing on internal projects related to New Student Transition, FYE, and International Students;
Performing other related duties as assigned.

3-year diploma or degree (degree preferred) in Community Outreach, Business, Public Relations, Education, or Social Services.
Minimum 3 years experience in either an education or business customer service environment.
Experience in a residence/housing or community housing setting is preferred.
Demonstrated computer skills and experience in Microsoft Suite, website content management (creating, modifying/updating), internet research, database management (creating, updating and report generating), developing and delivering programs/workshops/interventions.
Experience managing relationships with stakeholders.
