Overall Accountability
The Director, Employee and Labour Relations is responsible for providing advice, guidance and recommendations to Administrators, Supervisors, Managers, Directors and Superintendents on all matters related to Calgary Catholic’s relationship with its employees and the collective bargaining unions/associations.
Specific Accountabilities
- Chief spokesperson for Calgary Catholic in collective bargaining with the Alberta Teachers Association, Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 520 and Unifor, Local Union No. 1990
- Oversees the planning and preparation for negotiations, collecting, costing, and compiling data for the preparation of District interests/issues.
- Advises and oversees the negotiations of collective agreement terms and conditions of employment that meet employee interests and the requirements of Calgary Catholic
- Advises, initiates, and oversees employee and labour relations programs, policies and procedures.
- Investigates and resolves grievances and other issues and concerns raised by unions; manages the grievance and arbitration process.
- Acts as the liaison for the Calgary Catholic with the Alberta Human Rights Commission; administers Calgary Catholic’s response to human rights complaints.
- Develops and implements strategies to reduce labour/management conflicts between management, People Services, and unions/associations.
- Manages the development of maintenance of and the Job Evaluation Review processes for all employee groups position profiles.
- Manages, maintains, and administers the Exempt Employee Handbook
- Accountable for the Exempt Personnel Salary Grid (ESE)
- Conducts training and workshops on labour relations topics.
- Supports the People Services Management Team’s ongoing development and implementation of comprehensive and integrated People Services service delivery to Calgary Catholic
**Qualifications**:
- Degree in Labour Relations, Human Resources, or a related field
- Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in a multi-union environment
- Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation preferred.
- Valid Alberta Driver’s License and a vehicle in good operating condition
- Extensive understanding of legislation and regulations pertaining to labour relations, human rights, employment, and privacy
- Competency with Microsoft Office
- Outstanding interpersonal skills, commitment to service and highly developed communication skills
