**Overview**:
Reporting to the Manager, Community Social Development, the Planner 1 (Community Social Development) assists with research and analysis and the overall implementation and coordination of initiatives within the Community Social Development department.

**Examples of key responsibilities include, but are not limited to**:

- Undertake a range of technical research and data analysis, and policy and program evaluation to support the development, implementation and ongoing enhancement of the relevant strategies within the Community Social Development department.
- Assist with the implementation of initiatives related to Accessibility, Inclusion, Seniors and Social Planning.
- Participate in and facilitate community and stakeholder engagement processes related to the development and implementation of relevant strategies with the Community Social Development department.
- Prepare and contribute to reports for senior staff or Council on pertinent social development matters.
- Contribute to community and regional committees.
- Investigate potential grants and other opportunities to enhance and sustain Richmond’s social development objectives.
- Respond to information requests from the public, staff, and external agencies.
- Collaborate on other priority initiatives of the Community Social Development Department (e.g. Social Development Strategy).
- Monitor and compile statistics on current social trends, policies and regulations.

**Knowledge, Skills & Abilities**:

- Knowledge of community planning, principles, policies, methods and procedures in a municipal setting.
- Ability to work under general direction and use independent judgement when required.
- Ability to design and support public engagement processes involving the public and key partners.
- Ability to communicate in an effective, professional manner both verbally and in writing (e.g. prepare reports, memos, policy briefs and other written materials).
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with internal City departments, industry professionals and external agencies.
- Experience working collaboratively with different levels of government, community members and organizations.
- Ability to produce quality work in terms of the quality of information, option, analysis, and recommendations.
- Ability to deal courteously and effectively with internal and external parties.
- Ability to manage multiple work deadlines.
- Skilled in using computer software such as Microsoft Office.
- Ability to use REDMS or a similar records document management system.

**Qualifications and Experience**:

- A Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Social Planning, Community Development, Sociology, Social Work or a related discipline supplemented by a minimum of 1 year and up to and including 2 years’ related experience in policy planning, research and data management preferably in a municipal environment.
- An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
- A valid Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia.
