The Assistive Technology (AT) Program at the Nova Scotia Rehabilitation & Arthritis Centre works collaboratively with our clients, families and other members of the health care team to provide assistive technology as necessary to support our client’s goals. AT includes products, equipment (commercial, custom or modified) and services to improve or maintain an individual’s function and daily living.

The role of the Assistive Technology summer student is to work with the Rehabilitation Engineer and Occupational Therapy staff to support our Assistive Technology program with focus on our research and independent access to technology (iAT) initiatives. The objective of the iAT initiative is to enhance independence in people with disabilities by enabling access to computer technology, electronic and assistive devices.

This work term will foster a learning environment for a student interested in rehabilitation sciences. The summer student will assist staff in the implementation of research projects and training of people with a variety of disabilities in accessing technology and electronic devices. The individual will also provide assistance to staff with maintaining equipment, inventory, and knowledge resources.

**About You**:
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

- Current post-secondary student and continuing studies in the fall of 2023 in an undergraduate or community college program
- Excellent interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Able to work independently and in a team setting
- Ability to support individuals with a person centred approach and recognize the importance of equity in health care
- Interest and understanding of the use of assistive technology for people with disabilities
- Interest in technology, electronics, 3D printing and creating an asset
- Skilled in using computer technology including windows, android and apple platforms an asset
- An understanding of confidentiality, and commitment to the protection of personal health information
- Experience using different data bases including the ability to query data and generate reports an asset
- Knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology an asset

Successful Applicants are required to provide a Criminal Record Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search) to Human Resources before starting employment and assume any associated costs as a condition of employment.

**Hours of Work**:
Short Assignment, Full-Time (75 hours bi-weekly)
- Beginning June 1, 2023 with an expected end date of September 7, 2023**Salary Information**:
