The School of Population and Public Health (SPPH) at the University of British Columbia Vancouver Campus is seeking a full-time Research Associate for year two of a three year commitment, with appointments eligible for renewal annually. The position is with SPPH, and will be located at the Centre for Health Evaluation and Outcome Sciences (CHÉOS), a UBC Faculty of Medicine research centre at St. Paul’s Hospital.

CHÉOS

is an interdisciplinary collective founded to pursue excellence in health outcomes research. In addition to conducting its own research, the Centre’s other primary function is to offer methodological expertise to other researchers, including assistance with study design, statistics, health economics, data management, and grant facilitation for both health outcomes research and clinical trials. The Centre consists of over 80 faculty members and over 130 staff and research personnel.

The Research Associate will collaborate with a variety of academics and practitioners to play an active role in developing research proposals, writing manuscripts for publication and other related documents. Primary activities of the Research Associate include:

- Providing statistical, methodological, and analytic support/direction to interdisciplinary researchers
- Leading and collaborating on research projects, analyzing results, and presenting findings at meetings and conferences
- Participating in training, supervising, and mentoring junior researchers and statisticians
- Performing in-depth statistical modeling of health data, using conventional, Bayesian, and other advanced mathematical methods
- Collaborating with investigators on the design, conduct, analysis, and reporting of randomized clinical trials and observational studies
- Developing new statistical methods and analysis strategies as needed to support applied research

The position requires exceptional statistical and methodological judgment to identify and recommend sound analytic techniques for research projects. Error would result in publication of inadequately analyzed data, as well as the loss of productivity for the investigators, the potential loss of renewal of grant funding and damage to the University and Centre’s reputations.

Works independently under mínimal supervision from the Program Head - Biostatistics, CHÉOS.

The incumbent may be required to supervise and mentor trainees and statisticians involved in the research program.

**Qualifications**:

- A Ph.D. degree in Statistics or Biostatistics
- Demonstrated expertise in collaborating and contributing to research
- Excellent self-driven and independent research skills with a strong work ethic
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
- Strong statistical programming skills (R, SAS®, C++, etc.)
- Ability to take the lead on writing statistical analysis plans and statistical reports, manuscripts, abstracts, and other documents reporting study findings
