This position is for a Research Associate to engage in a few research projects including a WorkSafeBC-funded project called
_Preventing workplace violence: An in-depth investigation_. The purpose of the project is to gain a better understanding of patient-initiated workplace violence (WPV) perpetrated towards healthcare workers by patients to help create better prevention strategies. The objectives of this project include (i) exploring ‘on the spot’ (i.e., immediately before and after the incidents) experiences of WPV from the perspectives of healthcare worker victims, witnesses, and hypothetical patient perpetrators of WPV; (ii) determining contributing factors to WPV, and (iii) identifying the most common WPV warning signs detectable by providers for better education and proactive prevention of violence in healthcare settings.

This is a multi-site qualitative study taking part at mental health and substance use inpatient units, emergency departments, and one long-term care home within the Lower Mainland of BC. This position will be held by an experienced and a skilled research project manager with graduate training in data management and analysis. The Research Associate will be responsible for managing and overseeing all phases of the project and day-to-day research operations. This position will be based at the Vancouver campus of the University of British Columbia, with offices in the School of Nursing, with virtual work options available.

The Research Associate will report directly to the Research Manager and the Principal Investigator, Dr. Farinaz Havaei. The Research Associate will work in collaboration as a member of an interdisciplinary team with academic researchers, community partners and healthcare leaders, staff, and patients.

Responsibilities will include:
- Set up and implement systems for developing and sustaining effective community partnerships at organizational and individual levels.- Develop and oversee data protocols (e.g. data collection, management, and analysis).- Oversee participant recruitment and data collection.- Conduct complex analysis and interpretation of data.- Plan and organize knowledge translation activities and meetings.- Write reports and contribute to preparation of manuscripts and conference presentations.-
- Coordinates all project activities in accordance with the project budget, timeline and ethics protocol.- Provide instruction and training for research staff.- Other duties as require

Job Qualifications:
- Completed a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline (e.g. public health, statistics, sociology, nursing, psychology, sociology, anthropology, education)- Experience working in a research environment using both quantitative and qualitative research methods, including conducting interviews, is critical.- Experience leading qualitative data analysis using NVivo software- Experience working with interdisciplinary research teams and demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds, including members of the community and health care and social service providers.- Experience interacting with victims and witnesses of violence would be preferred.- Experience interacting with healthcare workers and leaders in a variety of sectors.- Must have excellent interpersonal skills, and excellent oral and written communication skills to engage with community members.- Ability to be self-directed, and to work both independently and within a team environment.- Demonstrated ability to think critically, analytically, and respond in a broad range of activities.- Demonstrated initiative and the willingness to work closely with members of a research team to ensure problems are resolved quickly and appropriately.- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
