**About the Opportunity**:
Reporting to the Director for Mental Health and Addictions Program in Central Zone and working under the leadership of the Clinical Director of Forensic Psychiatry Services, the Clinical Leader (CL) has clinical responsibilities of a Registered Psychologist PhD specializing in the field of assessing/treating sexual offenders and preventing sexual offenses. Clinical duties include conducting comprehensive risk assessments (including actuarial risk assessment), delivering individual and group treatment aimed at reducing risk for recidivism, supervision of students, and providing education/consultation to agencies who also work with sexual offenders (e.g., Crown Counsel, Family and Children’s Services, Probation Services, Police, etc.). These duties require specialized forensic training (e.g., actuarial risk assessment, assessment of dynamic criminogenic needs as treatment targets, etc.) above and beyond the standard mental health training required of a clinical psychologist, and adherence to best practices within this quickly changing field.

An integral part of this position involves the capacity to provide expert testimony at criminal proceedings. Such testimony requires (ongoing empirically based) specialized training, experience, preparation and consultation to ensure learned and ethical delivery within the courtroom. Exceptional communication skills in both written and verbal format are required, as is the capacity for pattern recognition and the ability to process information quickly at a conceptual level in real time. Due to the number of referrals being processed, a substantial working memory and speed is critical to the risk assessment process. The CL oversees the triage of provincial referrals to ensure the effective provision of evidenced-based services while enhancing community safety.

The CL provides clinical supervision, care direction and support to all FSBP staff by facilitating effective working relationships amongst staff while encouraging a high level of excellence, mastery and ongoing learning. Critical thinking, openness to evidence-based change, capacity for future vision and crafting the steps to achieve the vision at a provincial level, stress management while effectively multitasking and working successfully with difficult personalities, and a high attention to detail are necessary components to success in this role.

In keeping with strategic directions and in collaboration with all provincial stakeholders/partners, the CL ensures quality assurance through ongoing development, implementation, and revision (through outcome evaluation) of client services and community impacts.

**About You**:

- PhD degree from a recognized, accredited program in Clinical Psychology or Forensic Psychology (or equivalent)
- Registered or eligible for registration with the Nova Scotia Board of Examiners (NSBEP) in good standing
- Minimum of 5 years related clinical experience with forensic sexual behaviour including research experience and outcome evaluation
- Possesses expertise in the evidence-based assessment and treatment of persons whose sexual behavior has crossed legal boundaries, including actuarial risk assessment, Court testimony, and DSM-V diagnosis
- Specialized training in the Hare Psychopathy Checklist (PCL-R) and in the use of risk instruments such as the Static-99R/2002-R and Stable-2007 is required
- Certificate or post-doc in forensic psychology is an asset
- Membership in the Association for the Treatment and Prevention of Sexual Abuse (ATSA) is an asset; and periodic attendance to this conference is expected
