**Responsibilities**:
The Mental Health and Addictions Program (MHAP) operates out of various hospitals, clinics, and community locations across the province. It is comprised of specialized teams of Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Physicians, Nurses, Social Workers, Health Promoters, Recreation Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Secretaries, and other members of the allied health and support team.

The Advanced Practice Leader (APL) will be part of the Provincial Center for Training, Education, and Learning (PCTEL) and will report to the Provincial Clinical Leader and Manager of Training and Education. They will also work closely with members of the MHAP that support acute psychiatric services and will collaborate in developing and implementing initiatives aimed at enhancing inpatient and acute care services.

The focus of this role will be training nursing and other clinical staff working on inpatient services throughout the province. This will include developing and delivering initial and ongoing trainings, providing regular consultation, liaising with inpatient managers, psychiatrists, and policy analysts, and conducting program evaluation. Training and consultation will be aimed at enhancing inpatient clinicians’ knowledge, skills, and confidence in the areas of mental health assessment, suicide and other risk assessment, motivational interviewing, brief interventions, and working with emotionally and/or behaviourally dysregulated patients. Trainings and consultation will be situated in recovery-oriented, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed models of care.

The APL will have training and experience in providing the following with inpatient and acute psychiatric populations: mental health assessment; suicide and risk assessment; motivational interviewing; and cognitive-behavioural, dialectical behavioural, and other evidence-based interventions. They will have expertise in providing training and consultation and be familiar with adult learning principles.

The APL will have one day per week (0.2 FTE) for clinical work.

**Qualifications**:

- PhD or PsyD in Clinical Psychology
- Registered, or eligible to be registered/licensed with the Nova Scotia Board of Examiners in Psychology.
- Minimum of four (4) years of formal training and clinical experience in adult mental health and addictions, including two (2) years’ experience providing clinical consultation and supervision for mental health problems, including group-based supervision, live supervision, and case consultation. Have received supervision/consultation regarding own supervision and consultation skills.
- Skills and experience working with inpatient populations, providing mental health assessment, suicide and other risk assessment, cognitive-behavioural interventions, and in-the-moment skills training with emotionally and/or behaviourally dysregulated patients.
- Skills and experience in promoting learning cultures that emphasize anti-racist and intersectional values, analysis, and actions, clinical humility, and the responsible use of power and privilege.
- Training and experience in the provision of cognitive and behavioural interventions for a range of mental health disorders. Certification in cognitive-behavioural therapy is an asset.
- Knowledge of adult learning principles and experience providing training and consultation in mental health and addictions
- Experience with program evaluation and research
- Skills in leadership, advocacy, and team building
- Skills and experience working with adolescent as well as adult populations is an asset.

**Hours of Work**:
Permanent, Full-Time position; 75 hours biweekly

**Salary Information**:
$49.63 - $64.07 hourly
