The Alberta Recreation & Parks Association (ARPA) is a recognized leader of the recreation and parks sector. Established in 1951, we have continued to support our members by providing opportunities that enhance skills, knowledge and capacity in order to support the delivery of recreation and parks services. We provide leadership & advocacy to ensure the recreation and parks sector is recognized and supported for its vital contributions to enhancing the wellbeing of individuals, communities and the natural and built environments. We are passionate about providing programs, professional development opportunities, resources, and events that work to enhance the quality of life of ALL Albertans.

Communities ChooseWell is a program funded by Alberta Health, and managed by ARPA that inspires and strengthens community action to create local conditions and environments that enable all Albertans to eat well and be active. As a key member of the Communities ChooseWell team, the Program Officer, Impact & Storytelling is responsible for the oversight of the Healthy Community Grants, and Healthy Community Awards. The Program Officer will also facilitate provincial networking opportunities and nurture the champion collaboration platform. The Program Officer will administer grant and award nomination, selection and disbursement, and further deepen relationships with and between local wellness champions across Alberta.

**Location**: Flexible within Alberta (Edmonton or Calgary area preferred)

**Responsibilities**:
Reporting to the Program Manager, Communities ChooseWell, the Program Officer will:
Develop & Implement
- Coordinate networking opportunities for local wellness champions across Alberta
- Implement and analyze annual evaluation surveys, champion interviews, and focus groups
- Oversee the development of a champion collaboration platform and peer mentorship program

Facilitate Peer Support & Knowledge Exchange
- Support the facilitation and growth of ChooseWell’s provincial Peer Learning Networks

Develop and Provide Information, Tools, & Resources
- Support the implementation Healthy Communities Framework, and other print and/or web-based tools and resources related to healthy eating, active living, and community development
- Oversee the creation and distribution of community success stories

Promote & Celebrate Community Action
- Liaise with and provide support to local wellness champions and other key audiences
- Administer awards nomination and selection process and coordinate awards presentation and distribution process
- Oversee Healthy Community Grant adjudication, selection, and fund administration

Collaborations & Partnerships
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with external organizations, partners and communities as needed

Organization-based Allyship
- Support Reconciliation and allyship related activities undertaken by ARPA and/or Communities ChooseWell
- Represent ARPA and/or Communities ChooseWell at meetings, events, and ceremonies with, and in support of equity deserving groups as needed
- Support and participate in EDID learning opportunities for ARPA staff, members, and volunteers

Support the Team
- Represent and promotes ARPA and/or Communities ChooseWell at tradeshows, conferences & events as needed
- Support other organizational activities as required, such as ARPA’s annual conference

**Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities**:

- Post-secondary degree in a relevant field such as sport & recreation management, health education or promotion, public health, recreation, or similar.
- Minimum of 2 years of demonstrated experience related to the duties of the position is required
- Expertise in designing and delivering learning opportunities for adults
- Experience providing leadership and logístical support to conferences and workshops
- Experience designing and administering qualitative and quantitative evaluation activities
- Experience adjudicating and administering grant funding is preferred
- Understanding of population health and community development is preferred
- Experience working with Indigenous populations or other diverse communities is preferred
- Working knowledge of Alberta public health and recreation organizations and municipalities is an asset
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking
- Ability to facilitate learning events in a virtual platform (e.g. Zoom) is required
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and independently, with little supervision
- Strong project and time management skills, and the ability to work on multiple concurrent projects
- Strong computer skills including word processing, internet research, Gmail, videoconferencing technology such as Zoom, and social media
- Ability to accommodate occasional work outside of typical business hours and travel within Alberta
