**Working Arrangement**

Hybrid

The Litigation team is looking for a motivated, independent individual to join their team as a Litigation Law Clerk/Paralegal. The position will be located in Ontario. The Litigation Law Clerk/Paralegal will be responsible for providing comprehensive paralegal/clerk support specializing in life and health insurance defence litigation as well as sophisticated commercial litigation. The classification of this position is Hybrid.

**Responsibilities**:

- Draft the substantial content of legal documentation under the supervision of legal counsel (draft pleadings, initial legal opinions, motions, mediation briefs, retainer letters, pre-trial memoranda, trial briefs).
- Handle Small Claims Court Litigation, including attending settlement conferences, motions, and trials; Judgment Enforcements; Collections; Subrogation; Restitution/Writ Renewals for Restitution Orders; within Canada.
- Recover overpayments and monies owing to Manulife in the Small Claims Court.
- Work closely with clients.
- Gather documentary and oral evidence.
- Prepare transcript summaries and compile lists of undertakings, questions taken under advisement and refusals.
- Assist legal counsel in trial preparation by arranging and contacting witnesses, preparing trial briefs and preparing evidence summaries.

**Qualifications**:

- Law Clerk/Paralegal designation from a recognized institution (Paralegal Licence is an asset).
- Superb grasp of the civil litigation process including the _Ontario Rules of Civil Procedure _.
- Validated experience in a similar clerk role; insurance defence experience an asset.
- Excellent PC skills experience.
- Ability to produce high quality work while working under strict timelines and Court limitation periods.
- Experience with the Rules of Court throughout the common law provinces is an asset.
