Keeping Ontario’s Legislative Assembly running smoothly takes many talented people, doing many different jobs—from camera operators and committee clerks, to purchasing officers and researchers. The Office of the Assembly is dedicated to serving Ontario’s Parliament.
Together, we provide non-partisan administrative and procedural services to all MPPs, as well as operational support for the daily activities of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. Reporting to the Senior Parliamentary Counsel, the Paralegal provides legal and administrative support to the Office of Parliamentary Counsel and Clerk’s Office.
This position responds to inquiries from the Speaker, Ministers, MPPs, Office of the Assembly branches, and general public providing insights on parliamentary procedure as required or requested. Assists in litigation matters as required or requested.

**What You’ll Do**:
**You’ll act with integrity to**:
- Review and prioritize all incoming materials and correspondence to the Office of Parliamentary Counsel.
- Recommend appropriate course of action and monitor the status of work.
- Perform extensive research, drafts and proofread legal memorandums, procedural rulings, contracts, RFPS, MOUs, policies, research papers and correspondence.
- Establish and maintain the Office of Parliamentary Counsel’s legal files.
- Gather and analyze statutes, decisions, and legal articles, codes, documents and other data to assist Counsel.
**You’ll support our collaboration as you**:
- Provide comprehensive administrative support and coordinate administrative support services to the Office of Parliamentary Counsel and Office of the Clerk.
- Respond to inquiries from the Speaker, Ministers, MPPs, Office of the Assembly branches, Statutory Parliamentary Officers, and general public.
- Negotiate and work with external counsel, agencies, and institution as needed on various files.
- Visit and/or discuss legal parliamentary issues/procedural research with researchers from other jurisdictions.
**How You Qualify**:
**You demonstrate excellence through your**:
- Current paralegal license from the Law Society of Ontario. Maintenance of paralegal license required.
- Minimum of 2 years' equivalent experience as a corporate paralegal or law clerk with an emphasis on contract management.
- Demonstrated ability to provide legal administrative and proofreading services.
- Demonstrated ability to interact with high-visibility individuals and members of the public.
- Demonstrated knowledge of legal principles and language on drafting and administration of contracts and procurement rules as well as research methods.
- Demonstrated ability to draft and proofread RFPs, contracts and MOUs.

The Office of the Assembly is currently in a flexible workplace pilot program. The program permits employees in certain positions to work up to a maximum of 2 days per week for some of their regular scheduled hours from a mutually agreed upon location away from the office without compromising the efficiency and effectiveness of the Office of the Assembly business or overall service delivery. Employees that are able to participate in the program understand and agree that they must be available, when requested, to be onsite as required and, as such, are required to maintain proximity within commuting distance in Ontario from the Assembly’s formal place of business at the Legislative Precinct in Toronto, Ontario. Employees may be required to return to work in the Legislative Precinct full-time as deemed by the Assembly.
