As the Program Lead, you will be accountable for developing and administering projects, programs, and services related to multiple gardening programs with a focus on volunteering, public education and social marketing (behavior change).

Program Leads key responsibilities:

- Administration of partnership agreement between the City of Edmonton and Sustainable Food Edmonton
- Coordination of the small community grant program for community gardens in partnership with Sustainable Food Edmonton; participate as a member of the garden grant committee
- Oversee the development of new and additional engagement opportunities for gardening programs in Edmonton, such as City Farm programming
- Participate as co-chair on the corporate Urban Gardening Initiatives Committee
- Create and implement strategic program plans
- Initiate, plan and conduct information and education programs
- Coordinate special events and volunteer opportunities
- Maintain current partnerships and oversee partner data management
- Develop new and additional engagement, sponsorship and partnership opportunities
- Engage corporations, nonprofits and community groups to leverage resources to enhance open space, parks and natural areas for all programs
- Manage program budgets and look for alternative funding sources to support program initiatives (e.g. grants and sponsorship)
- Coordination and attendance of community events for program implementation and promotion
- Develop a high level of community and citizen engagement (with both internal and external stakeholders), and facilitation of public process and policy development
- Assist with facilitation of agreement and/or permit creation and delivery to residents, volunteers and partner groups, working with the Parkland Management and/or Road Right of Way teams, as needed
- Work with Research, Engagement and Communications to develop short and long-term community relations and social-marketing strategies that reach targeted audiences and stakeholders to achieve specific outcomes focused on awareness, attitude and behavioral change
- Supervise staff, students and sustainability scholars; provide input into performance reviews; assign, provide direction to, prioritize, monitor and review the work of subordinates; provide leadership, training, coaching guidance to staff as required to ensure performance standards/expectations are met; etc.
- Conduct ongoing evaluation and continuous improvement of programs
- Understand and follow municipal and provincial standards and policy relevant to the green industry
- Dependent on priorities and new programs assigned to the team, portfolios may change
- Perform other related duties as required

**Qualifications**:

- Degree in Biological Sciences, Administration, Horticulture, Forestry, Recreation or a related undergraduate degree
- 3 years experience in coordination of urban greening, urban forestry and/or naturalization, horticultural, gardening, environmental/outdoor education, or recreation related programs and events
- 3 years experience in a supervisory role
- Knowledge of the role of gardening as they relate to community building, food security and beautification is an asset
- Strong working knowledge Federal, Provincial and Municipal Legislation, policies and principles in conjunction with beautification and gardening programs is an asset
- Program development and administration experience
- Knowledge in best practices for volunteer management
- Plant and weed identification and knowledge of plant and forest ecology or horticulture
- Experience with gardening and basic knowledge about plant health needs
- Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment
- Ability to conduct or facilitate a community based program needs assessment and program evaluation
- Ability to gain acceptance and generate a professional working relationship with colleagues and stakeholder groups
- Ability to respond to difficult situations,using problem solving, negotiation, and conflict resolution
- Ability to express ideas effectively, both orally and in writing, including public presentations
- Ability to recognize and manage group dynamics
- Valid First Aid and CPR Level C is a requirement of this position
- Ability to work out-of-doors for extended periods and under unfavourable weather conditions as required by the work assigned
