**STEM Program Lead**

Thrive Charter School is a kindergarten through grade 6 school located at 10735 McQueen Road opening in September 2023. The school is currently under renovation. Thrive School is creating something special; a no fees to parents K-6 Public Charter School. A place where our students’ brilliant futures come into clear focus, and anything is possible.

**Eligibility**

**Position Description**

In this position, you will serve as the STEM Program Lead teacher. The role has assigned time within the school day and the extra-curricular program that begins after the regular school day, previous STEM experience of at least 1 year is required.

**Responsibilities**

Under the guidance of the Principal and the Program Director and in compliance with the Education Act and Thrive Elementary School approved charter:

- Establishes clear objectives and outlines for STEM programming while, following curriculum guidelines or requirements of Alberta Education.
- Prepares materials for learning, and classrooms for activities, as appropriate for assigned classes.
- Instruct and develop hands on STEM learning activities for k-6 students using a variety of instructional approaches appropriate for grade level, student needs and program focus for teaching students with distinctive experiences and motivations, including multimodal teaching strategies.
- Provides learning opportunities so students are able to see themselves as the innovators, scientists, inventors, engineers and technology experts of tomorrow.
- Observes and evaluates students' performance, behaviour, social development, and physical health.
- Promotes the development of student competencies as set by Alberta Education (critical thinking, communication, problem solving, collaboration, managing information, cultural and global citizenship, creativity and innovation and personal growth and well-being)
- Establishes and models expectations for behaviour and procedures for maintaining order and safety among the students for whom we are responsible, under the guidance of the Principal. Enforces all administrative policies governing students.
- Effectively plans with other staff members, as well as partners, for opportunities beyond the classroom which promotes learning.
- Open minded and committed to continuous professional learning, collaboration and reflection.
- Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
- Prepares students for later grades by encouraging them to explore learning opportunities and to persevere with challenging tasks. Adapts teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
- Prepares and implements remedial practices or programs for students requiring additional support.
- Plans and supervises engaging class projects, field trips, visits by guest speakers or other experiential activities, as appropriate, and guides students in learning from such activities.
- Effectively uses technology to support the learning process.
- Sponsors extracurricular activities such as clubs, and student organizations, as appropriate.
