**The salary range for this position is**:
**Recruitment range: $70,137- $77,330** starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement.

**Performance range: starting salary to max of $91,214** is available through annual performance increases.
- Job SummaryThe Department of Indigenous Education offers a Certificate, Diploma, B.ED., MA, M.Ed. and Graduate Certificate in Indigenous Language Revitalization and also supports UVic teacher education with running sections of required course IED 373 and electives and running a post-degree professional program in Indigenous elementary education.

The Administrative Officer (AO) for the Department of Indigenous Education is responsible for coordinating and implementing a broad and complex set of academic program and administrative duties. The AO is responsible for the administrative, financial and communications functions of the department. The position reports directly to and works closely with the Chair of IED to deal with the immediate day-to-day administrative demands and to assist with the long-term planning and academic goals of the department in conjunction with the strategic goals of the faculty and university. The AO provides leadership, advice, direction and problem solving on matters related to interpretation of university policies and procedures.
- Job RequirementsThis role requires an undergraduate degree plus three (3) years of related administrative, budget management and communications experience preferably in an academic environment. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

**Knowledge, skills and abilities**:

- Demonstrated experience in culturally appropriate service delivery to Indigenous peoples.
- In-depth knowledge of cultural protocols, history and cultural values of Indigenous peoples is required, with particular knowledge of local protocols.
- Cultural awareness of the Indigenous peoples of British Columbia and familiarity with Indigenous communities and the issues they face in regards to the public post-secondary education system.
- Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize, make decisions independently, be self-motivated, and consistently meet deadlines.
- Experience with budget development and financial management.
- Proven strength in written and oral communications.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain productive and supportive relationships within the department, faculty, and wider university community.
- Superior computer skills using Microsoft Office and university administrative systems (FAST, Banner, Cascade, FMIS, Workflow, Exchange Calendar).
- Demonstrated ability to build strong internal and external relationships and work in a team environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to collaborative approaches and collective decision-making.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise judgment, problem solve and work with complex and culturally sensitive issues.
- Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills and proven ability to inspire a team to achieve excellence.

**Assets or Preferences**:

- Lived experience as a member of an Indigenous community.
- Knowledge of the University of Victoria’s institutional culture, policies, and procedures.
