Morrison Hershfield's Environmental Business Unit works to avoid, minimize and mitigate adverse project environmental effects to help ensure a sustainable world for present and future generations. We specialize in environmental planning and management, environmental assessment, the natural sciences, regulatory approvals, impact studies, monitoring, solid waste management, infrastructure planning, renewable energy, hydrogeology and environmental site assessment.

MH provides integrated climate change mitigation, adaptation, and resiliency planning and engineering services across a range of sectors. Our team is skilled at climate change capacity building, climate risk and vulnerability assessments, climate adaptation and resiliency planning, GHG / carbon footprint assessments, public engagement workshop design and delivery, and development of guidance documents and toolkits for communities. A primary focus of our environmental practice is addressing the effects of climate change using creative and context-specific solutions. Our core climate change team undertakes a broad range of climate related projects across Canada.

Role: Practice Lead, Climate Change Planning

Overview:
Working under MH’s Vice President, Climate Change Practice Lead, the incumbent will be responsible for providing climate risk assessment, planning and policy development leadership on a variety of multi-disciplinary project teams. The incumbent will be required to lead and implement climate mitigation and adaptation risk assessments, develop and implement consultation strategies and programs, and prepare climate adaptation plans, project reports and supporting analysis. There will be an opportunity to lead, coach and develop staff and to work on a variety of planning, engineering and environmentally based projects across Canada and the U.S. and some travel may be required.

The primary base office location is flexible. Remote or hybrid work arrangements are available.

Responsibilities include:
- Serve as a Project Manager and/or Climate Change Assessment Technical Lead.- Support transportation, building and other infrastructure planning / design and environmental assessment studies, including coordinating climate mitigation, risk / resilience and adaptation assessment processes.- Develop and implement consultation programs (on-line/in-person).- Facilitate on-line and in-person stakeholder engagement sessions and outreach.- Coordinate engineering and environmental specialist inputs into climate assessments.-
- Prepare formal technical reports and presentations.- Play a key role in proposal preparation and business development.- Contribute to the development of the firm’s Climate Change Community of Practice.- Support incorporation of climate change services in projects across the firm.- Provide expertise on nature-based solutions to climate change issues.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, those listed above.

Qualifications:
- Relevant degree(s) in Climate Risk Assessment, Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Planning and/or Geography and demonstrated knowledge of current/emerging standards and assessment methodologies (e.g., ISO 31000, ISO 14091, PIEVC).- Master’s Degree preferred. Related professional designation(s) (P.Eng., RPP) desirable.- Demonstrated experience as a Climate Risk and Resilience Planner on Federal, Provincial and Municipal projects at the organizational / community level. Experience with buildings, energy and/or watershed studies would be an asset.- Demonstrated experience developing organizational policies, programs and guidance documents - pertaining to vulnerability, risk assessment, resilience and adaptation.- Experience with Climate Change Mitigation assessments / plans / strategies an asset.- Experience with Sustainability assessments / frameworks an asset.- Strong technical writing and presentation skills (English).- Bilingualism (English / French) also an asset.
