- Reporting to the Manager International Student Services, the
- **International Student Advisor (**
**ISA**
**) **provides current and up-to-date information on North Island College programs and the post-secondary sector to current and prospective international students. The ISA will provide specialized advising services that support international students, including pre-departure and orientation support, cultural transition and retention support, timetabling and educational plans, graduation preparation and advice on study permits, temporary resident visas, co-op work permits and post-grad work permits. The ISA provides information to potential and continuing international students on admission eligibility, registration processes, and College policies and procedures. The ISA assists students with the preparation of their educational plans. The ISA participates in recruitment activities as required. The ISA is aware of the mission and values of North Island College, incorporating and practicing the values in their work.**Position Competencies**

**Duties & Responsibilities**
- 1. Works closely with various sub teams in the Office of Global Engagement including recruitment, international student finance, admissions, and global engagement.
2. Collaborates with the student services college-wide advising team and adheres to all student services best practices and procedures.
3. Provides information on college programs and courses to current and prospective international students, and to the general public as necessary.
5. Advises international students on relevant sections of the IRCC website and policy.
6. As appropriate advocates on international students’ behalf within the OGE, college community and with community and government organizations.
8. Participates in international student events as required.
9. Assists international students in the development of educational and
- _ _career options through a variety of methods including individual confidential appointments, group workshops and digital communication.
10. Understands and shares how fees are charged for international students.
11. Demonstrates and promotes the image, mission and professionalism of the college through effective first point-of-contact customer service. Represents North Island College in a manner consistent with the image, mission, and professionalism of the college, as required.
12. Provides pre-departure and orientation support to incoming international students, including creating and updating pre-departure and arrival materials Assists with arrival and orientation, and delivers orientation sessions related to academic advising.
13. Develops and maintains NIC program information to support educational advising, including information on certificate, diploma and degree programs from BC post-secondary institutions and general information on programs offered by other Canadian institutions, particularly with regard to international students and trends within international education.
14. Identifies international students who need assessment testing, liaises with assessment and admissions teams as required, and incorporates results in preparation for educational advising.
15. Completes required reporting to IRCC as an authorized user for Designated Learning Institution (DLI) compliance reporting and for Study Direct Stream programs.
16. Proactively prepares and provides accurate information to deans and administration, to support and facilitate decisions related to the need for additional sections of courses.
17. Responsible for referring international students to counsellors, Early Assist and other services within the college or post-secondary sector, as appropriate.
18. Develops and maintains good communication and effective working relationships with the staff of government and community agencies and other institutions and organizations.
19. Provides information about attending NIC to local international high school students by providing information sessions either at local high schools, or to high school students visiting NIC.
20. Works in conjunction with the entire NIC student services team to provide input and support as it relates to the ISA role.
