Position Summary

Reporting to the Dean, Faculty of Arts, Science and Management (FASM), the WIL Instructor/ Designer for Work Integrated Education is responsible and accountable for the following:

1. The creation of new, sustainable work integrated programming, including internships or co-ops within the FASM and other decanal areas as needed.2. Managing, coordinating and improving the daily operation and integration of Career Central, the work-integrated learning platform, with all other NIC educational technologies.3. Taking a proactive approach of working with students and facilitating career workshops within different programming areas while also interacting 1:1 with students in different campus locations.4. Assisting in the delivery of any pre-employment seminars when required5. Creating new, innovative work-integrated learning curriculum for application across the College.

The WIL Instructor/ Designer is expected to have considerable experience in the areas of career development and employment services, developing and delivering career development workshops, supporting employment placements in business, and working with adults in the private or public sector.

This position requires strong communication skills with particular attention to intercultural communication. Additionally, the incumbent will need to clearly (and regularly) report on established deliverables and benchmarks on a pre-determined basis.Being innovative and well-versed in Canadian and local labour markets, and skilled in establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships and networks, the incumbent will work to advance WIL opportunities across the region.

- Interpersonal Effectiveness. Duties & Responsibilities 1. Instruction, Evaluation and Student Support1.1 Implement and facilitate an evaluation system, methods, and timelines that meet the learning objectives in the Authorized Course Description for all Faculty of arts, Science and Management internship or co-op courses.1.2 Develop, plan and deliver pre-employment/ entrepreneurship/curriculum (resume/cover letter/interview) including EMP 100/EMP 010.1.3 Evaluate and approve the appropriateness of work term opportunities for specific academic program objectives.1.4 Provide support to students with establishing goals and learning outcomes as part of their job placement process.1.5 Hold regular office hours for student and employer interactions.1.6 Conduct work term/site visits to evaluate student performance for internship/co-op placements.1.7 Assess student performance and report grades as required under NIC policy.1.8 Coach students in accessing and using labour market and other sources of information to build their understanding of the world of work.

2. Employer/Industry/Entrepreneurship Development and Liaison2.1 Participate in career related networking and special events that promote students, programs and the institution while also supporting student pathways and professional as well as personal development success.2.2 Identify opportunities for employers/entrepreneurs to participate in campus events and interact with students.2.3 Monitor trends in the labour market and ensure that the college is creating programming and/or modules that reflect and integrate these developments.

3. Program Administration3.1 Maintain processes and manage the data (Career Central) to build a strong foundation for internship/co-op programming across the institution and specifically identify systems to mediate and resolve student-employer communication and workplace challenges. This includes reviewing relevant policies and documentation to support the internship/co-op placement such as promotional materials, information bulletins, Student and Employer Internship Handbooks, application forms, and evaluation forms for employers and students.3.2 Utilize databases to maintain job descriptions, potential employer information and student profiles and qualifications for historical and continuing information sources.3.3 Participate in orientation and other college wide student engagement/recruitment activities.3.4 Collaborate with faculty in all decanal areas looking to develop or initiate work-integrated learning experiences in their curriculum. Participate in regular department meetings.3.5 Implement and maintain systems to analyze work-integrated learning activity statistics and reports with the objective of informing long-term program design and sustainability.3.6 Support Faculty (and academic advisors) to develop their confidence and depth of understanding of how to facilitate effective career and co-op conversations.3.7 Ability to maintain working knowledge of relevant technology, including facilitation tools (e.g., polling platforms), social media and online platforms (e.g., e-portfolios; LinkedIn) for recruitment and program promotion purposes.3.8 Provide regular progress reports to the Coordinator Work-Integrated Education. Required Education & Experience 1. Graduate degree in Career Counselling, Career Development, Education, Instructional Design or in a relevant discipline.
2. Minimum three years of demonstrated experience in the post-secondary sector, in career development and/or work-integrated learning.3. Demonstrated experience managing and overseeing student work terms.4. Experience teaching adults in the discipline of career development and pre-employment preparation.5. University and/or college level teaching/instructional experience. Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities 1. Recent education, training and expertise in current career development theory and practice.2. Well-developed marketing and public relations skills.3. Ability to work both independently and within a team.4. Skills in providing career guidance, coaching and para-professional counselling services to students.5. Understanding of and ability to communicate to employers the skills and knowledge gained from specific academic disciplines offering work-based experience/learning (internship).6. Strong planning and organizational skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, conflict resolution skills.7. Knowledge of and experience using the diverse and extensive resources available for employment and work search success.8. Current computing skills and experience using databases combined with the ability to process computer data and to format and generate reports.9. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Teams, Google Docs, and other online productivity tools (e.g., for webinars and one-on-one online engagement).
10. Valid BC driver’s license11. Ability to travel to other NIC campuses and other locations (i.e., recruitments events, job fairs and regional meetings, etc.) is required.12. Excellent knowledge of regional, provincial, national and international labour markets/trends.
13. Strong marketing and presentation skills to communicate with various stakeholder groups.
14. Excellent knowledge of the recruitment and talent acquisition process.
15. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with diverse populations, including students, employers, faculty, deans, administrators and alumni.
