Our client has an exciting opportunity for a Health & Safety Specialist to contribute to the development, implementation, coordination, and administration of the corporate health and safety program, including emergency management and wellness. This position reports to the Senior Manager, Health, Safety and Emergency Management and offers potential hybrid on-site/remote work arrangements.

**Position Summary**:
As the Health & Safety Specialist, you will work collaboratively across the organization to enable effective and sustainable workplace safety for staff, students, and the public. You will contribute to the development, implementation, and management of Corporate Health and Safety Program, and lead the Employee Wellness portfolio. You will ensure that our commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, is reflected in the safety programs, risk management practices, and incident response. As the Health & Safety Specialist, you will contribute to the overall success of the People and Culture team, and ensure that all programs, processes, and team services contribute to the strategic direction and workplace culture of the organization

**Main Responsibilities**:

- Drive continual improvement and effective implementation of the Health, Safety and Emergency Management (HSEM) program elements
- Develop, communicate, and maintain HSEM policies and procedures
- Provide coaching, support, and mentorship to all levels of the organization to improve HSE expertise and drive the culture of safety leadership
- Coordinate training and awareness campaigns to support and reinforce HSEM programs and procedures
- Ensure the quality and consistency of risk assessment, workplace inspection, and investigation processes
- Conduct regular inspections and audits of facilities, identify health and safety concerns, and develop effective strategies for risk mitigation
- Collect, analyze, and report on pertinent health and safety data
- Identify key trends and make recommendations for improvements to address health and safety risks
- Maintain and expand knowledge of provincial OHS legislation and industry best practices through continuous education and professional networks
- Lead Employee Wellness portfolio to address both physical and mental health.
- Occasional overnight travel (less than 10% off the time) to other locations may be required.

**Qualifications**:

- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience
- OHS degree, diploma, or certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or in pursuit of the designation
- Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST); Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC); Certified Emergency Planner (CEP), or related designations are assets
- A minimum of three (3) years HSE experience with a working knowledge of provincial and local OHS regulations and industry best practices.
- In depth knowledge of OHS regulations, Codes of Practice, Guidelines, Standards, and demonstrated knowledge of relevant HSEM practices and industry guidelines
- Strong personal leadership and relationship management skills, and the ability to engage others to accomplish common goals
- High level interpersonal communications skills, and proven experience in conflict resolution and change management
- Excellent written, verbal, and reporting skills, and experience with presentation and facilitation of classroom and hands-on training
- Ability to demonstrate both creativity and sound judgement in decision-making and recommendation development
- Strong organizational, project, and time management skills, with demonstrated flexibility to respond to changing priorities
- Proficient user of MS Office suite, including Excel, SharePoint, and Power BI
- Demonstrated ability to model a high level of professionalism and ethics, and to maintain the discretion and confidentiality required by this role.
- Demonstrated commitment to meaningful outcomes in diversity, equity, and inclusion, and understanding of the importance of indigenization within a post-secondary environment and particularly a public safety institution.
- Class 5 Drivers Licence

**The position offers a 35-hour work week, with opportunity for hybrid onsite/remote work options. Total compensation package includes**:
