**Position**: Summer Camp Counsellor

**School**: Star Academy, Mississauga Ontario

Star Academy is running its second year of summer camp for children aged 3-9 years old, with mixed age groupings, and an integrated environment. This position may be partially funded by the Canada Summer Jobs Programme and as such must meet their employment criteria.

**The ideal applicant will**
- Will have an educational background with training in Teaching, Early Childhood Educator, Early Childhood Educator Assistant, or Child Youth Worker
- Have a minimum of one year experience working in an Early Childhood environment

Canada Summer job programme criteria:

- _be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period_
- _be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment, and_
- _have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations_

**Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications**

Job requirements:

- Work with others to plan 8 weeks of themes and daily schedule
- Follow programming that includes Star’s five pillars: emotional, social, physical, academic, and global
- Work collaboratively to supervise the four segments of our camp day: Physical Activity, Outdoor Activity, Inquiry Learning, Arts and Crafts

Be involved in all aspects of daily camp, including but not exclusive to:

- Planning, organizing, and implementing camp programmes, daily supervision of campers
- Plan and maintain an environment that fosters continuous growth and learning, as well as protects the health, security and wellbeing of the students,
- Supporting all camp counsellors in implementing a program that supports cognitive, social, emotional, global, and physical growth
- Be able to work flexibly and to adapt to a constantly changing environment
- Be able to work independently, as well as part of the camp team
- To communicate with parents and colleagues in an open and supportive manner
- Demonstrated organizational and problem-solving skills

Supervisory Duties:

- To supervise campers and run activities on a daily basis
- To work at Star Academy hours assigned, which may be by 7:45 am daily and ready to greet campers by 8:00 a.m. and lock up the school facility daily during camp (or assign a responsible camp colleague) following last campers leaving (30 min unpaid lunch break) (maximum work day length 8.75 hours, maximum work week of 44 hours)

To complete accident and incident reports
- Provide a recent vulnerable sector criminal reference check and valid First aid and CPR

**Job Type**: Full time Monday - Friday 7:45 a.m. to 5:00 from July 4 - August 25, 2023

**Salary**: $17-$18/hour, commensurate with experience.

**Salary**: $17.00-$18.00 per hour
