The Learning Disabilities Association of Peel Region (LDAPR) is seeking 5 enthusiastic Summer Camp Counsellors to work with our group of neuro-diverse young summer campers You have experience working with young people with learning differences, love working with youth and are seeking a rewarding summer work experience.

**The Job**

As an LDAPR Summer Camp Counsellor, you will work with the Summer Camp team to deliver an inclusive, entertaining, and enjoyable summer camp experience to children with learning disabilities between the ages of 7-12. We will expect you to be able to work effectively within your 3:1 camper to staff ratio, where you will adapt the existing program activities to suit your individual campers’ needs. You are the person who makes your campers’ experience a great one We are looking for people that are passionate about working with neuro-diverse children, people who are creative, patient, understanding and fun too

**Key Summer Camp Counsellor Responsibilities**:

- Attend the mandatory one-week paid training sessions and preparation 3 weeks prior to the beginning of camp from June 10th - 28thand all 7 weeks of camp
- Provide supervision on the bus during trips and excursions
- Complete log in & out procedures for campers
- Complete your weekly timesheets, any incident reports and daily communication logs to parents
- Create a positive rapport with all campers, parents and volunteers
- Be aware of campers’ medical needs including allergies, asthma, sensory sensitivities etc.
- Actively participate in the development & implementation of the program activities each week
- Prepare materials for crafts and activities as necessary
- Supervise campers during the recreational activities to ensure a safe environment
- Supervise and aid campers during snack and mealtimes,
- Modify aspects of camp activities as necessary to accommodate each camper’s individual needs, to promote participation and engagement
- General set-up/clean-up at start and completion of camp day
- Other duties as required by Summer Camp Coordinators/Program Manager

**Funding Requirements**:To qualify for one of the four Canada Summer Jobs supported positions, you must be enrolled in a post-secondary program and be between the ages of 18-30. The remaining two Summer Camp Counsellor positions are open regarding age (18 plus) and educational enrolment.

**Required Skills and Knowledge**

**Need to haves**:

- Experience and/or desire to work with children and youth with learning disabilities
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to take direction and accept constructive feedback
- Be an effective problem solver
- Be a team player and be comfortable individually working within your 3:1 ratio
- You must be currently certified in First Aid/Level C CPR Certifications or willing to obtain training prior to the commencement of camp

**Really NICE to haves**:

- Previous experience with children in a camp or educational setting is definitely preferred
- Previous experience with children with learning disabilities is a big asset
- Certification in High Five is an asset
- Valid driver’s license is an asset
- NVCI/CPI training is an asset

**Job Type**: Fixed term contract
Contract length: 10 weeks

Pay: $21.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
