**Unit/Project Description**:
As the largest Faculty, with approximately 8,000 undergraduate student, enrolled in 100+ undergraduate programs and 215+ faculty members, the Faculty of Science is an integral part of McMaster University.

Science Career and Cooperative Education hold a key role in partnering with students, employers and faculty to prepare Faculty of Science students to successfully transition from education to career and to excel in their chosen fields. The team works innovatively and creatively to get science students career ready by connecting students with co-op and other opportunities for experiential educaiton, building their science career competencies, connecting them with employers and ensuring they are prepared to articulate their value to potential employers.

Science Career and Cooperative Education delivers thirteen Co-op programs.

We have an opening in our Cooperative Education Team. We are looking for someone who can strategically develop a plan that sets metrics for expanding our employer relations and achieve the metrics established in the plan. This is a key role that will bolster our opportunity to connect science students with valuable career enhancing cooperative education opportunities in line with their interests.

This is a contract position lasting 12 months.

**Job Summary**:
Responsible for strategically planning, identifying, developing and cultivating employer relationships in the global business community to develop employment and experiential opportunities for students and alumni. This role will organize a centralized approach to employer development across campus to support collaboration and seamless employer experience and act as a key McMaster contact with external employment advisory boards, economic development organizations, municipalities, chambers of commerce and other labour associations to represent the University and gather market information.

**Purpose and Key Functions**:

- Identify, develop, and cultivate strategic employer development plans and relationships in the business community.
- Design content for marketing materials, and social media campaigns that target both on and off campus employers.
- Interview and probe for information from employer partners to understand recruitment needs and develop employer relationships to understand current and potential resourcing needs of organizations.
- Conduct research and analysis through focus groups, surveys, and conversations with students, staff, and employers to support the development and viability of new Work Integrated Learning programs and opportunities.
- Ensure hiring and programming comply with government legislation and policies, as well as University regulations.
- Write a variety of documents including, but not limited to, reference letters, correspondence and workshop plans.
- Recommend policies and procedures related to the program and career services offered.
- Plan, coordinate and facilitate a variety of activities and events, including, but not limited to, workshops, employer lunch and learns, information sessions, etc.
- Research and develop informational content to share with employers and students.
- Conduct employer site visit and attend key employer related events and networking meetings.
- Provide information and guidance to students related to employers and coordinate employment opportunities.
- Calculate travel expenses for attendance at site visits, seminars, conferences and professional development.
- Gather, compile, and analyze information identifying labour market data, trends, and job opportunities.
- Remain current and demonstrate understanding of employment legislation and government mandates.
- Present and market programs to industry partners and encourage them to provide employment opportunities to students using persuasion and/or influence to gain buy in.

**Supervision**:

- Has ongoing responsibility for supervising up to 9 casual employees.
- Ensures adherence to quality standards and procedures for short-term staff and volunteers.

**Requirements**:

- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Requires 4 years of relevant experience.

- Educational background in Science
- Experience in a career setting and/or detailed understanding of career options in the various disciplines within Science is highly desirable.
- Prior experience facilitating co-op student placements and developing employment opportunities for students or job-seekers.
- Career Development Practitioner (CDP) or equivalent certification
- Knowledge of the ORBIS / OSCARPlus database system and Microsoft Office.
