Kennel Operations Manager

The Operations Manager position maintains the integrity and reliability of the organization. Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the kennel ensuring that all animals are healthy, well fed and living in an environment that meets their physical and social needs.

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities**:
1) Monitor animals’ health checking for signs of illness or disease and observing their behavior.
2) Provide strong leadership and supervision to all kennel staff.
3) Recruiting and training staff members in proper handling and care of the animals and disciplining staff if required.
4) Maintain a staff base that is highly motivated providing guidance and direction to staff, including setting performance standards and ensuring accountability.
5) Create staff schedules that align with the needs of the kennel including on call staff.
6) Supervising kennel staff to ensure they are performing their jobs effectively.
7) Ensure Payroll is submitted on time and recorded accurately.
8) Determine whether animals should be separated from the pack or if any special accommodations are needed to ensure their wellbeing.
9) Monitoring the cleanliness of the kennels to ensure they are properly cleaned and sanitized.
10) Ensure that all kennel staff members are complying with regulations regarding animal care and safety.
11) Monitoring and record keeping of all animals at the kennel.
12) Observe and report any repairs and maintenance needed to the owner. Meet regularly with the owner to discuss any problems or needed improvements.
13) Order all supplies needed to maintain the kennel.
14) Preparing shipping documents and crates for the transportation of puppies.
15) Mailing.
16) Registering litters (when required).
17) Updating medication and deworming books.
18) Stocking up medicine containers for any dogs on meds.
19) Drawing blood, breeding dogs, collecting fecal samples and arranging with the lab for pickup.
20) Scheduling vet appointments.
21) Arranging transportation for dogs to certain appointments or taking the dogs to their appointments.
23) Weekly reports to your employer in regards to what is happening in the kennel (with employees and dogs).
24) Ultrasounds to check on puppies (if there are issues).
25) Bringing new ideas to the table to help the operations run smoothly.
26) Learning the job of kennel attendant so new staff can be trained properly.
27) Keeping all dogs up to date on vaccines.
28) Keeping all dewormings up to date.
29) Yearly reviews/end of probation reviews/warnings letters.
30) Employee meetings/meeting notes.
31) End of shift walk throughs.
32) Keeping an updated grooming list.
33) Covering shifts for other staff members when required.
34) Any other duty that Swissridge owner assigns as necessary.

**Qualifications and Education**:

- Previous experience managing a team (3years)
- Strong leadership skills
- Communication skills required to motivate and manage the team as well as customer and
owner communications when required.
- Organizational skills needed to manage workload and responsibilities effectively.
- Problem solving skills, having the ability to think quickly and find solutions to unexpected
issues.
- Veterinary knowledge would be an asset

**Physical demands**
Expected hours of work means the amount of time required to accomplish goals and deliverables associated with the position where at times, the hours worked may exceed a ‘typical’ forty (40) hour workweek.

**Salary**: $55,000.00-$65,000.00 per year
